re: vending events with no-refund policy...There is a reason behing non-refund policies that is not rooted in greed.

Very often, non serious, or unthinking vendors will sign up for shows willy nilly, only to cancel at the last minute on a whim. Event organizers plan an event and much of that planning is contigent upon where vendors go, and what vendors can be there. If a vendor cancels coming to an event, it leaves a hole in the roster that often can't be filled, resulting in lost income that cannot be replaced. If it is important enough for you to cancel being at an event, then it should be no problem for you to forfeit your sign up money.

This is why we all have deadlines and refund policies, otherwise, we would never know if we could afford to have a show or have enough vendors to make it worthwhile for the visitors to attend. Sometimes vendors think that they can get their money back if they offer a suggestion of another vendor, but unfortunately this vendor does not meet the quality or the theme of the event.

Again, if the reason you can't attend an event is serious enough, and not rooted in your own greed (ie. "oh, i decided to go to this other fair instead of yours last minute".. or .. "oh i decided to go a wedding that weekend instead because i didn't make enough stock anyway") then you should be fine with losing your "deposit".

Keep in mind that event organizers who do it for profit, are also aiming to make a living, just like you. You don't overprice your product to take advantage of customers ... because you would eventually lose the customers. The same is true of for-profit event organizers. An event organizer stand to lose a lot of money of the event doesn't go well - even the non profit ones.

Think outside yourself.
