The Book of Proverbs is a book that has so much Wisdom within it's pages. A portion of it read everyday is God's way of showing us where we may have been or where we could find ourselves unless we do unto others as we want it done unto us. There is one verse in today's posting that really touches my heart since I, once, was one of these.

Proverbs 17:5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

I am not too proud to share this example of two women I will not forget.

Like I said, I was very poor, had a husband that would not work and I had gotten a job typing in an exclusive portion of KC. I was pregnant and showing larger by the day. The one good dress I had was no longer able to be zipped shut. The one sweater I had was also no longer hiding the back unzipped portion. I heard the snickers of other women in the office about my attire. It was so hard to work trying to keep a stiff upper lip.

As I was sitting, at lunch time, drinking a cup of coffee in a near-by coffee shop, a very wealthy woman came up to me and said she had a suit that was about my size I could have....gave me her address but added, "Be sure to come around to the back when you pick it up."

The next day, a woman my age in the office, came with a sack for me, quietly slipped it to me and said, "Please accept these". Inside were several Maternity outfits that fit me perfectly which allowed me to be able to continue my job for a few more months.

Now, which of these two women had a heart after God's own heart? Which do you think I remember with complete happiness and thanksgiving? I have never forgotten her and pray that her gift to me has been returned unto her a thousand fold.

The other woman, who was willing to give but who considered me too shabby to come to her front door had much more to learn about giving with a pure heart. She never saw me come to her door, whether front or back.

Now read this again:

Proverbs 17:5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

Do you see how the poor cannot help themselves as so easily thought but they still want to keep a semblance of pride in their self-worth?
