Dramatic rise in flu deaths reported by California health officials

In a live interview broadcast on the noon news program of Israel Radio Reshet Bet, Infrastructure Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) warned that if U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry submits a written proposal to the Israelis and Palestinians that this will cause the talks to blow up. The Alaskan Winter That Never Was?
I had heard it was warm in Alaska, but holy moly, I didn’t know it was THIS warm. Above is an anomaly map showing the Drunken Arctic Air in central and eastern Canada and the US in contrast with the very (relatively) warm air over western Canada and Alaska. Remember, these are anomalies, not absolute temperatures. But still, it is warm enough in at least parts of Alaska that lakes that are normally well frozen by now are not frozen at all and may not even freeze this winter.
World Court Ruling in Peru-Chile Maritime Dispute
The International Court of Justice decision is expected to establish which country owns some 38,000 square kilometers (14,670 square miles) of ocean in a zone extending to the limit of each country’s territorial waters. Peru is seeking recognition of a maritime border perpendicular to the coast. Chile insists the border is on a line horizontal to the earth’s axis.
Israel mulls replacing al-Aqsa mosque
An Israeli official says the Tel Aviv regime is considering replacing the al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds (Jerusalem) with a temple. Minister of Housing and Construction Uri Ariel on Friday called for the construction of what he called "the Third Temple" to replace the holy site. Ariel says the first and the second temples were destroyed many years ago, so the third one needs to be built now.

A government minister from a nationalist religious party called Thursday for the Jewish Temple to be rebuilt on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The statement from Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) breaks a long-standing taboo on high-ranking government officials speaking about changing the fragile status quo on the holy and contested esplanade, and will likely draw ire from official Israeli circles and anger the Arab and Muslim world.
Earthquake strikes southeast Iran; no injuries
A moderate earthquake has struck southeastern Iran, though there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 struck at 6:16 a.m. local time Monday (0246 GMT, 9:46 p.m. EST), some 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of Zahedan, Iran. That area sits near Iran's eastern border with Pakistan.
Two minor earthquakes shake Longview
A 2.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at about 8:45 a.m. about 15 miles southeast of Longview, followed by a 3.0 magnitude aftershock at 9:30 a.m. about a half mile from the first, said John Vidale, director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network in Seattle.
US strike 'targets al-Shabab chief' in Somalia
The US military has carried out a missile strike in Somalia against a suspected militant leader with ties to al-Qaeda and al-Shabab. Local residents told the BBC that an al-Shabab commander and four others were killed but US officials say this has not been confirmed. The strike was aimed at a vehicle in a remote area of southern Somalia, near the town of Barawe.
Texas hospital ends life support for pregnant Marlise Munoz
A brain-dead woman kept alive by a hospital in Texas because she was pregnant has been taken off life support. A court had ruled that John Peter Smith Hospital must stop life-saving measures for Marlise Munoz by Monday. Mrs Munoz, 33, was 14 weeks pregnant when she fell unconscious in November. It is believed she had a blood clot.
Ya'alon: Palestinians see destruction of Jews as realistic possibility
Israel will no longer tolerate Palestinian incitement and attempts to isolate it in international institutions, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said on Monday. Speaking at an event to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the defense minister lashed out at the Palestinian Authority for claiming to seek peace on one hand yet encouraging "efforts to boycott Israel."
Japan reports record annual trade deficit
Japan has reported a record annual trade deficit after the weak yen pushed up the cost of energy imports. Its deficit rose to 11.5 trillion yen ($112bn; £68bn) in 2013 - a 65% jump from a year ago. Small Earthquake Reported Near Wetumka OK
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:38 a.m. Sunday. Its epicenter was located eight miles south, southeast of Wetumka, 26 miles west, northwest of McAlester, 35 miles south, southwest of Okmulgee, and 78 miles east, southeast of Oklahoma City.
Strong Earthquake in Western Greece (Cephalonia) – Felt in Athens
A strong quake with magnitude 5.7 shook the Greek island Cephalonia a few minutes ago. The shocks were also felt in Athens and as far away as Karditsa and Larissa. The epicenter is located in the western part of the island. People report the shaking also from distant countries, like Albania, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Southern Italy.
Governor faces backlash for calling NY pro-lifers 'extreme'
Catholic and pro-life leaders have criticized New York Gov.
