Are the Prophecies in the Bible True?

Here we are starting into 2014 and the world around us is bubbling with the very things Jesus said to look for in the end-times. Matthew 24 said to look for wars, rumor of wars, earthquakes in various place and famines. Luke 21 adds pestilences and great signs in heaven including in the sun, moon, and stars. But, are these things really things to worry about or, are they just business as usual? Will mankind overcome them by ignoring them?



Lately, the weather has been on the news. Extreme cold in the United States from North Dakota down to Georgia and from Washington State to New England. These same weather patterns are playing havoc in Europe and Russia as well.



At the other extreme, the Southern Hemisphere has had record high temperatures. Australia has had temperature as high as 122° F. Death Valley, California sees this most every year but few people live there. The above mentioned temperatures are around the populated areas in Australia. When summer comes to the Northern Hemisphere, we will likely see the reverse effects. The drought of this country still has not been overcome to this date and out West, the snowpack is far below what is necessary for the summer months.



Let’s mention the meteors that are coming to earth and not burning up completely in the atmosphere, as in what happened in Russia this last summer. Oh, and don’t forget about the sun spots that are erupting. One good burst in the right direction and angle to earth and our electrical system could be fried!



Does this mean the prophecies are coming to pass? Unfortunately, not everyone believes this is the case. “Global Warming” (or cooling) has been blamed for much of the weather changes. Civil unrest and corruption has been blamed for the wars in the Middle East as well as Iran wanting to blow Israel off the map; territorial disputes are raising their heads in Asia between China and Japan over small islands and water territory. Add to this, North Korea is rattling its saber and that contributes to the volatility there. It wouldn’t take much of a human blunder to set any one of these areas off on a nuclear rampage.



How about the world economy? The European Union has problems with countries needing to be bailed out of near financial collapse. Rumor has it that some countries want to abandon the Euro and go back to handling their own finances. Let’s not forget the United States, either. We are into a $17 trillion debt that there isn’t a snowballs chance in Hades that we can get out of. This of course, puts our own economy in an extremely precarious position. One good major disaster for this nation and the economy could crumble like a house of cards.



Then there is our “dear leader,” Obama, and what he is doing to destroy our Constitution and force things like the “Affordable” Care Act (contradiction of terms, I’m sure) down our throats. How about him firing generals and admirals left and right in the military because they don’t agree with him and his policies? Of course, he’s not alone here. There are scads of Democrats on his side that are willing to help him make our life more difficult.



So, do we need God to send His wrath upon us? At the rate things are going, we might do it all by ourselves! Does this mean the Bible prophecies are true? You better believe it!



Daniel 9 talks about Israel going through a seven-year period where a ruler will arise and assure them of peace for seven years, only to betray them, three and a half years into a seven-year peace agreement. The book of Revelation tells of this same time of seven years and the wrath of God being let loose on all of mankind. Of course what Revelation describes is not pretty by any stretch of the imagination! It will be a time of great terror and horror the world has never seen. It won’t be just Israel that will suffer! The whole world will endure this! But, let me stop here, for a moment.



The title of this article asks if the prophecies are true. What if mankind just brings all these horrors on himself and God has nothing to do with it? Let’s consider this scenario for a moment:



Man lets loose on himself an atomic war, at minimum (no help from God, mind you). There currently, are enough hot spots where this could happen at any moment. The destruction will be appalling, the death toll uncountable. The land will be uninhabitable for at least 1000 years. Let’s not forget the disease that will run through the world! There won’t be water to drink or food to eat; starvation will set in. Again, all this will likely last for at least 1000 years because the radiation will take that long to decay… if not longer.



Even if Mankind can overcome most of his own horror, where do you think he will be in 1000 years? A conservative guess is he would advance to the equivalent of the Late Bronze Age (about what was 1500 – 1200 BC). There won’t be much left of the natural resources. Infrastructure as we know it will be gone. Electricity might be available but limited. Motorized vehicles will be at a minimum, at best. Medicine will be starting from scratch as the radiation will likely change every known virus to something much more sinister and there won’t be much, if any way to combat them. So, are the Bible prophecies true? They’d better be.



According to the book of Revelation, the wrath of God will last seven years with the last three and a half years being the worst. In that time, unbelievable horror and terror will come upon the unbelieving world of Man. What Man doesn’t do to himself, God will do! But, as Jesus says in Matthew 24:22, if those days were not cut short, no flesh would survive. Remember, mankind cannot out-destroy God. Therefore, can we believe the biblical prophecies are true? You better hope so.



At the end of the book of Revelation, God tells of renewing the earth and there will be a 1000 year reign on earth by Jesus. At least, the earth will be habitable. If the prophecies weren’t true, then the earth after Man’s destruction will be a virtual total loss for a minimum of 1000 years. Even then, will mankind ever recover to at least, the point of the mid-1800s? If Satan has his way, man will never recover. Fortunately, God will be in control.



Are the prophecies true then? Yes. And for those “left behind,” they will need to hope and pray that they are. The first indication that the Tribulation – the seven-year-period of God’s wrath and judgment upon Man – has begun will be when the event known as the Rapture, takes place. This is the time when the true believing Christians, and the Holy Spirit, will be removed from the world. Jesus will call us to “come up here” (Revelation 11:12; 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17; 1 Corinthians 15: 15-53).



A number of events of world importance are still to take place: An invasion from the north upon Israel; the destruction of Damascus and the rise of a world leader. It is this leader, the Antichrist that will forge a peace treaty between Israel and her enemies for seven years. Once this treaty is signed, his true nature will be revealed as the Antichrist and it will mark the beginning of seven long, terrifying years of wrath poured out by God upon this earth. Mankind will add destruction to what God will bring but it will be God who will bring about the most destruction. All of it though, is prophesized largely in the books of Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Matthew, Luke, and especially Revelation.



But, there is one more thing to consider: Why not avoid this destruction altogether? Why not accept Jesus as your personal savior and avoid God’s wrath? If mankind won’t collectively accept Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords, then his collective fate is sealed; but you, as an individual need only to ask Jesus to come into your life and be your Savior. By accepting Him and what He has done to save you, then you will escape the horrors to come by being part of the Rapture.



Man can unleash a considerable amount of destruction upon himself without God’s help but when God decides to let loose His wrath upon this God-rejecting world, man’s destruction will be a walk in the park compared to what God will do. To avoid this however, go to Jesus and repent of your sins and ask Him to come into your life. Otherwise, you will find out just how true the Bible prophecies really are!
