Egypt violence: Deadly car bomb hits security site
A car bomb attack at a security building in northern Egypt has killed at least 12 people and injured more than 100, officials and state media say. The blast led to the partial collapse of the building in the city of Mansoura, north of the capital, Cairo. Interim Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi called it "an act of terrorism".

South Sudan sees 'mass ethnic killings'
New evidence is emerging of alleged ethnic killings committed during more than a week of fighting in South Sudan. The violence follows a power struggle between President Salva Kiir, a Dinka, and his Nuer ex-deputy Riek Machar. A reporter in the capital, Juba, quoted witnesses as saying more than 200 people, mostly from the Nuer ethnic group, were shot by security forces.

US and Canada storms spell cold, dark Christmas for many

Nearly 400,000 customers in eastern Canada and 390,000 in the US are still without power, with Michigan worst hit. In Toronto, a utility has said power may not be restored for most residents until Thursday, and that some may be without electricity until the weekend.

Kerry to present 'framework agreement' to Israel, Palestinians later this month
In an attempt to re-energize the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, US Secretary of State John Kerry intends to present a "framework agreement" to both sides by the end of the month, Quoting anonymous Arab League sources, the paper reported the agreement will include security measures meant to assuage both sides.

U.S. aircraft hit by gunfire in South Sudan as conflict worsens
Three U.S. aircraft came under fire from unidentified forces on Saturday while trying to evacuate Americans from a spiraling conflict in South Sudan. The U.S. military said four of its members were wounded in the attacks.

The media reported that Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority (PA), rejected the peace proposals submitted by US Secretary of State John Kerry. This was declared a “red line” that the Palestinians will not cross.

Russia has handed over vehicles and supplies to assist Syria with destruction of its chemical weapons stockpile, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Monday. “Russia airlifted 75 vehicles, including 50 Kamaz trucks and 25 Ural armored vehicles to the airport in Latakia on December 18-20,” Shoigu said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

In an evangelical Christian "purge"...Theo Zurenuoc has chopped up numerous carved heads and panels and is now planning the removal of a thirty-foot high, four-ton totem pole from the parliament's Grand Hall.

Israel police search for bus bombing suspects
Israeli police are searching for suspects after a bomb exploded on board a bus in central Israel on Sunday, just minutes after it had been evacuated. A bomb squad officer was slightly hurt by the blast in Bat Yam, which blew out the windows of the vehicle. The bus driver had ordered passengers off after one saw wires inside a large bag that had been left on a seat.

Istanbul clashes as Turkey PM Erdogan condemns 'plot'
Turkish police have used tear gas against thousands of anti-government protesters in Istanbul as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to break the hands of "plotters". Clashes erupted between protesters and police in Kadikoy Square... In a northern town Mr Erdogan denounced people he said were setting anti-Turkish "traps" to undermine his rule.

South Sudan army set to move on rebel-held town of Bor
South Sudanese troops are preparing to enter the rebel-held town of Bor, President Salva Kiir has said. Mr Kiir told parliament the army was "ready to move", adding that the counter-attack had been delayed to allow US citizens to be airlifted out. Bor, in the restive state of Jonglei, fell to rebels on Wednesday.

Toronto hit as winter storm grips eastern Canada and US
A severe ice storm has brought snow and freezing rain to Canada's biggest city, Toronto, and to much of the east of the country. At least 11 deaths have been blamed on the storm system in Canada and the north-east US, which was also affected. The storm left hundreds of thousands of people in the region without electricity.

Kassam rocket fired into southern Israel from Gaza
Security forces on Monday morning located the remains of a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel overnight. The rocket was found in the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council after Code Red sirens were sounded in the area shortly after midnight on Sunday.

As said in our prior updates a magma intrusion is currently going on below El Hierro. So far the strongest earthquake is a M3.2 at 12:16. Stronger earthquakes may be expected.
