Do You Even Have a Clue?

It takes quite a lot to shock me these days. It really does, but I was floored this afternoon, by a show I saw on TV. My son was upstairs studying for final exams, and left the TV on in the room he normally hangs out in. We don’t allow him to have a TV or computer in his room, nor is he allowed to have a Facebook or Twitter account. I’ve yet to see any redeeming quality to any so- called social media, especially when it comes to teenagers, so we simply don’t engage in those things.



So, he watches TV and plays video games in what most would term the sitting room of our house. It’s an open room, and his Dad and I will sometimes join him in there to watch a hockey game or rerun of some show we all like. He’s been coached as to what kind of shows I feel are appropriate to watch as Christians, and all video games have to be approved by me as well.



Anyway, the TV was on and I walked in the room to shut it off since he wasn’t watching it. I was frozen in place by what was on—a series created for MTV and aimed at teens called ‘Awkward.’ I wasn’t familiar with this show, so I paused to watch for a minute.



The series revolves around a high school girl, her classmates, and their relationship struggles, along with their home lives and parents. Within the first 30 seconds of viewing, I witnessed one female character ask another, “Hey, you ARE going to bring booze to the party tonight, aren’t you?” The reply was, “Yeah. I wouldn’t miss a good booze schmooze for anything!”



Surely, I thought, that was an anomaly on the show, so I continued to watch. The scene changed to a boy reading an essay he wrote about the acid trip he had experienced the previous summer. The teacher asked the lead female character what she thought about the piece, but she had fallen asleep in class. The reason?



Her boyfriend was staying in her home for a week, and she was exhausted because he wanted sex every night, leaving her with inadequate sleep. Seriously! I continued to watch as she complained to her friends about this and listened to their suggestions. As they talked, the boyfriend walked up to her between classes and told her, “Don’t forget to take your pill.”



The students looked at him, and he said “Her Mom told me to remind her!” What the…? Finally, after school the lead female and her boyfriend made it home from the school day. He looked at her suggestively and asked, “What do you want to do?” She said, “Something we’ve never done before…” This wasn’t two bored, long married people looking to spice up their romance. These were children!



Next scene, they were sitting on the couch, flipping TV channels, looking for a porn movie to watch together that both could agree on. She wanted something with a story line, and he made a very rude comment about how the story line didn’t matter, as the outcome was always the same. These kids are portrayed as being in HIGH SCHOOL!! I observed all this happen within watching less than 10 minutes of this garbage!



I found myself standing there, flipper in hand, with my mouth hanging open in outraged disgust! I’m no prude by any stretch of the imagination but, SERIOUSLY? These high schoolers were portrayed living the lives of your average, single, unsaved, hedonistic 35 year old! The show is written FOR a teenage audience and the lifestyles of the characters are normalized, with no thought for morality or the possible consequences of their actions.



When I called my son downstairs, he had no idea what show it was; he’d never seen it before and I believed him, because I routinely check in behind him. Like President Reagan always said about the Soviets, “Trust but verify.” Anyway, after watching with me for a minute, even HE, at 14, was appalled!



Parents, do you keep tabs on what your kids are watching and listening to? Are you really checking up to ensure they aren’t sneaking around, partaking in shows or music that the Lord would find objectionable? I knew society in general was on a greased, downhill slide, but I had NO idea the filth that our teens are subjected to on TV!



Oh, and it’s presented as oh-so-cool to get roaring drunk and hop from bed to bed with your high school friends. Those things have always been a problem but it’s not even slightly frowned upon in this show! It’s perfectly normal, expected behavior. My son has repeatedly complained that the kids at his high school think they’re being relevant by claiming to be bisexual or gay. That will probably be in tomorrow’s episode. *GAG!*



This show, Awkward, won the Teen Choice Award and People’s Choice Award for favorite cable TV comedy and is now in its third season. And to think; there was a time when the song, “Smokin’ in the Boy’s Room” was scandalous. My, how far we have fallen! Sometimes, I feel very old.



Folks, what music are your kids into? Do they like Miley Cyrus, who used to play Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel? Well, little Miley has grown up and sings about something called ‘molly’ in two of her songs. In her smash single, “We Can’t Stop” she mentions ‘dancing with molly.’ No, Mom and Dad, molly isn’t one of her girlfriends; it’s a pure form of ecstasy.



Kanye West, Lady Gaga (Gag-Gag) and Madonna (the washed-up-has-been) also sing of it. Miley is also known for her promiscuity and propensity to publically expose as much of her 20 year old body as is legal, no matter what the circumstances. You may want to throw Miley Cyrus to the curb; you know, where you put the rest of the garbage. She’s no role model for your kids.



Beyonce and Jay-Z aren’t either. Former street-drug-dealing-thug-turned-? rapper, Jay-Z is an open, proud member of the Illuminati and raps in one of Kanye West’s songs: “I kill the block, I murder the avenues, I rape and pillage your village, women and children…” His clothing line, Rocawear is repleat with Illuminati symbolism and is a take-off of his record label, Roc-a-fella which refers to high ranking Illuminati member, Jay Rockefeller, a personal friend of the couple.



Jay-Z’s wife, Beyonce, uses Illuminati symbolism throughout her performances. She has taken to wearing a large ring depicting the demon, Baphomet, as well as outfits with his image or the shape of a goat’s head and horns. She constantly flashes occult symbols like covering one eye, to suggest the ‘all seeing eye of Horus,’ and she makes a triangle symbol with her fingers to depict the Illuminati pyramid symbol on the back of the dollar bill.



Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Kee$ha, Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry are all Illuminati puppets whose songs and videos are filled with occult symbolism, satanic references, overt sexuality--both straight and homosexual, and are extremely popular with teenagers, with hits at the top of the charts.



Kayne’s latest album is named, “Yeezus” in which he proclaims himself to be a god “until the day I get struck by lightning.” May that be soon…Like most rap ‘artists’ *cough-cough* his ‘songs’ are filled with vitriol, violence, sexism, blasphemy, racism, and language that would make a sailor on shore leave blush. Interestingly, he has won 21 Grammy Awards and was voted by Time Magazine as being one of the top 100 most influential people in the world. Great.



That’s what is influential in this world. Scum like Kayne West. Not in my house! Parents, growing up is difficult enough without the values or lack thereof, of ‘superstars’ like these. Children are a gift from the Father of Lights and are precious beyond words. Just because they’re old enough to cross the street alone doesn’t mean your job is done.



They need you just as much or more in the pre-teen and teenage years as they did when they were toddlers. This world is blisteringly evil and the cultural influences and peer pressure they face every day at school is brutal! Like every generation before them, they are compelled by friends to conform and fit in to what ‘everyone else is doing.’ Well, now days, what everyone else is doing includes booze, drugs, promiscuous sex including homosexuality, as well as satan worship in some form.



They won’t stand a chance without a strong foundation in the gospel and consistent, loving guidance and boundaries from Mom and Dad. You may have to endure the wrath of your teen, but you’ll live and they’ll get over it, so grow a couple and be parents to your kids. You’re NOT their friend.



You MUST monitor and scrutinize what your kids are watching and listening to! Google the words to the songs. Read the descriptions of what movies they want to see. Watch their TV shows with them and block your TV and computer from things that are not appropriate for a young Christian to view. Read about the celebrities they want to emulate. Make sure you know what worldly influences are coming into your home and lodging in your child’s heart!



Deuteronomy 6:4-9 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in think house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”



Is that clear enough, parents? Your kids don’t need more stuff. They don’t need more worldly goods; what they WANT is time with you along with your guidance and boundaries. They want to feel safe and secure in your love, and to know their home is under the fear and admonition of the Lord. THOSE are the best things you can give them for Christmas!



Time is running out and our Lord is coming soon. As Joshua declared in chapter 24, verse 15 “…choose this day whom ye will serve;…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” What about you and YOUR house?
