Iran’s ultimatum for new nuclear talks: No ‘Zionist’ Israelis allowed
In what’s sure to fuel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s angst over the American-forged nuclear development deal with Tehran, the foreign minister of Iran said Friday that all further discussions will have to leave out Israel. ...Iran “would not attend a meeting in which the Quds [or Jerusalem] occupy regime participates. We consider the Zionist regime as the biggest danger to the region and the world.”

Pakistan promises to help Afghan officials meet key Taliban figure
Pakistan’s prime minister said he was committed to helping find peace in Afghanistan and that a deal had been reached to allow Afghan negotiators to meet a high-profile Taliban commander. Speaking during his first visit to Kabul since taking power in May, Nawaz Sharif said next year marked a “milestone” as foreign forces left the country and urged an end to what he called the “destructive cycle of conflict.”

Israeli officials denounce Obama for giving Iran right to enrich, destroying sanctions
Unnamed Israeli officials denounced US President Barack Obama on Friday night for presiding over failed negotiations with Iran under which they said the sanctions pressure on Tehran is collapsing and the Islamic Republic has been granted the right to enrich uranium. The entire wall of sanctions, painstakingly constructed over years, is already crumbling and “will collapse within months,” the officials were quoted as saying.

Stoning will not be brought back, says Afghan president
Afghanistan's government has backed away from a proposal to reintroduce public stoning as a punishment for adultery after the leak of a draft law stirred up a storm of international condemnation. The president, Hamid Karzai, said in an interview that the grim penalty, which became a symbol of Taliban brutality when the group were in power, would not be coming back.

Syrian chemical arms 'to be destroyed on US Navy ship'
The body charged with overseeing the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons has confirmed some will be "neutralised" aboard a US Navy ship. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said the US was contributing technology and financing. The chemicals will be diluted to safer levels using a process called "hydrolysis".

US carriers urged to comply with China air zone rules
The US says it expects its civilian aircraft to observe China's rules in an air defence zone in the East China Sea. A US statement said this did not mean the US accepted China's requirements in the zone covering territory claimed by China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. China wants all aircraft there to file flight plans and identify themselves.

The EU will not accept a "veto" by Russia on the bloc's ties with former Soviet republics, European Commission chief Manuel Barroso has said. Speaking at a EU meeting in Vilnius, Mr Barroso said the era of "limited sovereignty was over in Europe". Devices fired near US military base in Japan
Two "improvised launch devices" were fired near a US military base in Japan late on Thursday, officials said. No-one was injured in the incident, which took place outside Yokota air base near the capital, Tokyo. Bangs were reported by local residents and police found steel pipes, wires and batteries at the scene, police said.

France prostitution: MPs debate ban on paying for sex
The French parliament is to debate a bill which would crack down on prostitution by imposing hefty fines on anyone paying for sex. Prostitution is legal in France but until now only soliciting and pimping were illegal. Under the bill, those caught paying for sex would face an initial fine of 1,500 euros (£1,250; $2,030).

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 has struck a town in southern Iran near a nuclear power plant.

Japan and South Korea defy China air zone rules
Japan and South Korea have both flown planes unannounced through China's newly-declared air defence zone, officials from both nations say. Japanese aircraft had conducted routine "surveillance activity" over the East China Sea zone, the top government spokesman said. South Korea had also conducted a flight, its defence ministry said.

Obamacare: Small-business enrolment delayed by one year
The Obama administration has announced another delay to its healthcare law, this time to online medical insurance for small businesses. The marketplace website allowing employers to buy health coverage for their workers will be put off by one year until November 2014.
