No Bruce is unfortunately in error here about the rapture. We'll see again in the very "rapture verse" this is all simply spelled out for us. It's only when men become invovled that simplicity in Christ is tranformed into complexity, and right out contradiction of scripture. Let's look at the passage again which Bruce will quote for us:

1 Thessalonians 4:15

"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which ARE ALIVE AND RENAIN unto the coming of the lord shall not prevent THEM WHICH ARE ASLEEP."

As this verse plainly and simply shows, the rapture will occur at the COMING OF THE LORD- "we who are alive and remain unto the coming(parousia) of the Lord" it doesn't get any clearer than this. Now, it wasn't until the "pre-trib rapture" doctrine infiltrated the understanding of the church that anyone ever would've considered that "the coming of the Lord" didn't mean the, well, the COMING OF THE LORD. It was only after the pre-trib rapture doctrine infiltrated the church that suddenly people began seeing "the coming of the Lord" as something OTHER than what it is expressly taught to be in scripture- the second advent.

So Bruce is "inventing" a "coming of the Lord" which is NOT the second coming, and then "seeing" it when he reads other passages (such as people in heaven). He sees people in heaven and thinks "this must be the result of the other coming I am teaching about" when in reality what he is seeing is the saints who are already with Christ, who are the subject of the very letter he is here discussing: ie "them that sleep in Christ"

Here in this very passage concerning our gathering to the Lord at His coming, to meet Him, declaring that all of these saints Jesus will BRING WITH HIM when He comes:

1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Now at Rev 19 we see "the armies in heaven on white horses"; and here Bruce sees these saints coming with Christ and "sees" "it must be the raptured saints returning" instead of "these are the saints asleep now, who Christ brings with Him AT HIS COMING"

You know how the pre-trib believers "see" a pre-trib rapture in scripture that DOESN'T EXIST IN SCRIPTURE; well, everyone who believes in a rapture prior to the COMING OF THE LORD is doing the same thing.

The real question is this: why does ANYONE think that "the coming of the Lord" does NOT refer to the second advent, the second coming- that singular event that until the 1800's NOT A SINGLE PERSON WOULD EVER THINK that "the coming of the Lord" describes anything other than- well, than the coming of the Lord.

Paul even tells us in His 2nd letter that the coming of the Lord is with "flaming fire" and "vengeance" and is "brightly shining" and "destroys the wicked"

How is anyone possibley mistaking the "coming of the Lord" for anything but what it is? Let me ask, if the PAROUSIA OF THE LORD, is NOT the second advent, the coming of Christ with all His saints: then WHAT IS THE SECOND COMING?

1 Thessalonians 4:17

"Then we which ARE ALIVE AND REMAIN shall be caught up together WITH THEM ( which are asleep ) in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD."

"SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD" IS THE PROOF .

How is this possibley a "proof" of anything other than, after the coming of the Lord we will "ever be with the Lord"? Yes, after the coming of the Lord we will certainly "ever be with the Lord"; this says nothing about why Bruce is thinking the "coming of the Lord" isn't the second coming; or, wait, is it the third coming? Fourth? How many comings exactly again? I remember two angels saying "He will come again" I certainly do not recall anyone teaching "and also, after that; and once more for good measure" there is ONLY ONE COMING it is called THE COMING OF THE LORD it is not called ONE OF THE SEVERAL COMINGS or A COMING it is THE (as in ONE AND ONLY) COMING.

The preceding Scriptures describe the rapture of the Church 'BEFORE' THE SECOND COMING OF THE LORD because the following Scriptures describe the raptured Church 'IN HEAVEN' BEFORE THE SECOND COMING OF THE LORD:

The raptured Church

John sees the raptured Church

Then John again sees the raptured Church

Before he starts pointing at groups and saying "they must've been raptured to be there" maybe he should first show that the "coming of the Lord" spoken of by Paul as clearly being the time of the rapture, isn't the second coming. Because it clearly is.

Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Paul says here that we are already raised up together (as the church) and we SIT TOGETHER IN HEAVENLY PLACES. Now, wait a second. How do we right now sit in heaven, and but we're still here on earth? Anyone of you can answer this question? Who is in heaven? Who are we seeing in visions of people sitting in heaven? By the way, as a bonus: anyone know where Peter and Paul and James and John and all of the Christians throughout history- where are they right now? If we were shown a vision of heaven, would we see it populated with saints RIGHT NOW?

Again the real question I would ask would be, why would any of you think that "the coming of the Lord" isn't the second coming? When did the one coming we all agree will happen- when did it suddenly divide into two? Then three? Then four, five, six and seven?

THE COMING OF THE LORD- the word "the" is a definite article and is the English way of saying "THERE IS ONLY ONE OF THESE"

2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
