A top Iranian military chief warned on Sunday that the US will face "harsh consequences" if it intervenes in ally Syria over claims of chemical attacks, Fars news agency reported.

The United States is moving towards war with Syria, a senior Russian lawmaker said Sunday lashing President Barack Obama as “clone” of George W. Bush in his drive for war.

Churches changing bylaws after gay marriage ruling
Worried they could be sued by gay couples, some churches are changing their bylaws to reflect their view that the Bible allows only marriage between one man and one woman. Although there have been lawsuits against wedding industry businesses that refuse to serve gay couples, attorneys promoting the bylaw changes say they don't know of any lawsuits against churches.

3,600 Syrians Treated For 'Neurotoxic Symptoms'
Around 3,600 Syrians have been treated for "neurotoxic symptoms", and 355 of them have died, says the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders (MSF). ... MSF said the victims flooded into three Syrian hospitals on the day that hundreds of people were apparently killed in a "chemical massacre". They all arrived within less than three hours of each other, said MSF director of operations Bart Janssens.

US moves forces toward Syria, inquiry continues
U.S. intelligence officials sought Saturday to determine whether Syria's government unleashed a deadly chemical weapons attack on its people. At the same time, the Obama administration prepared for a possible military response by moving naval forces closer to Syria. ...The Syrian government denies the claims. It also has warned the U.S. against taking military action, saying such a step would set the Middle East ablaze.

Tunisia opposition in rally against Ennahda-led government
Thousands of Tunisians have rallied in front of the National Assembly in the capital Tunis calling for the Islamist-led government to resign. The opposition National Salvation Front has called for a week of protests over what it says is the government's inability to guarantee security. The protests come a month after the assassination of a prominent opposition politician.

Israel's "finger is on the pulse" following the situation in Syria, and – if needed – will also be on the trigger, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday in his first public comments on reports that hundreds of Syrian were killed last week by chemical weapons. An official says suspected Islamist extremists killed at least 44 villagers in continuing attacks in an Islamic uprising in northeast Nigeria. The official of the National Emergency Management Agency says the attackers hit Dumba village in Borno state before dawn Tuesday and slit their victims’ throats — a new strategy since gunfire attracts security forces.

Gaza: Hamas urges Egypt to reopen Rafah crossing
Officials from the Islamist group Hamas are urging Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian authorities closed the crossing point this week after more than 20 Egyptian policemen were killed near the border by suspected militants. Thousands of Palestinians, including students and medical patients, wanting to leave or enter Gaza have been stuck.

In a testament to the depravity of thug culture, an Australian collegiate baseball player attending school in America was killed by three teenagers looking for fun, police reported. Christopher Lane, who was out for a jog in the town of Duncan, Oklahoma where his girlfriend and her family live, was targeted at random after he passed a home where the boys were staying. ”They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: ‘There’s our target,’” said Police Chief Danny Ford. ”The boy who has talked to us said, ‘We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.’”

President Barack Obama argued some Republicans secretly side with him on wanting to avoid a government shutdown, but they’re afraid they may face backlash from the conservative right. California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency for San Francisco late Friday after electrical infrastructure serving the city was damaged by a giant wildfire raging out of control on the western edge of Yosemite National Park. The fire has damaged San Francisco city and county electrical equipment and poses an "imminent threat to critical infrastructure assets" of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, according to a news release.

Russians Inspect Missile Defense Base in California
Russian officials this week carried out a secret inspection of the U.S. strategic missile defense base in California as part of the New START arms treaty, according to Obama administration officials. The inspection of five missile defense interceptors is the only one allowed under the 2010 arms accord. The treaty requires cuts of U.S. and Russian deployed strategic warheads to 1,550.

NM Supreme Court Finds Refusing to Photograph Gay Wedding Illegal
The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that, by refusing to photograph a gay wedding, a photography studio violated the New Mexico Human Rights Act (NMHRA). The court found that Elane Photography’s refusal to serve Vanessa Willock violated the act, which “prohibits a public accommodation from refusing to offer its services to a person based on that person’s sexual orientation,” according to the ruling.

Report: Syrian rebel forces trained by West are moving towards Damascus
Guerrilla fighters trained by the West began moving towards Damascus in mid-August, French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Thursday. Le Figaro reported that this is the reason behind the Assad regime's alleged chemical weapons attack in Damascus on Wednesday morning, as UN inspectors were allowed into the country to investigate allegations of WMD use.

Lebanon: Two blasts rock city of Tripoli
Two explosions have rocked the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, with reports of casualties. At least one of the blasts happened near al-Taqwa Mosque, as Friday prayers were ending, initial reports say. Emergency services have rushed to the scenes of the blasts which have left thick plumes of black smoke over the area.

Sudan deadly floods affect 300,000 people - WHO
More than 300,000 people across Sudan have been affected by floods that have killed nearly 50 people in August, the World Health Organization has said. It said the region around the capital Khartoum had been particularly badly hit and was experiencing the worst floods in 25 years. One of the major risks to health was the collapse of more than 53,000 latrines, the WHO added.

A huge wildfire near Yosemite National Park in California has forced scores of tourists to flee during peak season and is threatening thousands of homes. The week-old Rim Fire more than tripled in size on Thursday and now spans at least 84 square miles (217 sq km). More than 1,300 firefighters have been tackling the blaze in difficult terrain but have contained only 1% of it.

This was Netanyahu’s first public comment on reports of the massacre on Wednesday of hundreds of Syrian civilians by President Bashar Assad’s forces, using chemical weapons.
