Written twice, both in the OT and the NT:
Malachi 1:2-3..."I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, 'Wherein hast thou loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother?' saith the LORD: 'yet I loved Jacob', (vs.3)'And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.'" God was speaking to "Israel" (followers of God) through Malachi (vs.1).
Romans 9:12-13..."It was said unto her (Rebecca); 'The elder (Esau..Edom) shall serve the younger' (Jacob...Israel...believers); (vs.13) AS it is written, 'Jacob (Israel) have I loved, but Esau (Edom) have I hated.'"
"ISRAEL" refers to ALL WHO FOLLOW GOD, BOTH IN THE OT AND THE NT. This is not debatable because that's what the Bible says.
It's a shame that pastors only teach Malachi to point to TITHING (Mal 3:
, and there is not ONE Christian today who has not heard this scripture at one time or another..."Will a man rob God?"...and more money comes into the coffers. When, in actuality, "tithing" is not a NT mandate. It is a WORK, and that "falls" from Grace.But, they totally neglect to tell Christians why God "hated" one and not the other. ESAU became EDOM. So, now we have to find out WHO "Edom" is today! Because Edom is going to get pretty much "beaten up" by God when the trouble of the last days begin.
