This topic has been seen to cause a great amount of confusion in the "body of Christ" (Church), and much of this is not knowing the meaning of II Timothy 2:15 (which scripture is sometimes omitted in the newer bible versions).
According the the KJV, this scripture reads: "STUDY to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHTLY DIVIDING the word of truth."
And it goes on, in verse 16..."BUT shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (vs.17) "And their word will eat as doth a canker:...."

Much confusion has been caused by Christians who do not understand this verse. These are the ones who wrongly divide the bible by suggesting that there are 8 (or is it 7?) covenants that God has made with His people. There are only TWO covenants...the OT sacrificing animals to atone for sin and keeping the Law; the NT Sacrifice by Jesus Christ, Himself, was the final, and last covenant with His people....Grace through Faith (Eph.2:
In the bible, God is speaking to EVERYONE. No one part of the bible is for a specific person. God is no respecter of persons...see Acts 10:34, Rom.2:11, Eph.6:9, Col.3:25. He does not hold Jews above Muslims or New Agers above Roman Catholics. Nor does he hold the rich above the poor, or vice versa. Believers are His "chosen" and unbelievers are not. This is true in the OT and in the NT. They are called "Israel". Israel, coming out of Egypt were a "mixed multitude"...Ex.12:38. And the "Israel of God" in the NT (Gal.6:16) are a mixed multitude who believe in Jesus Christ. God does not change. It's that simple.
This scripture tells us that we need to STUDY the bible ourselves in order to gain God's approval. Sitting in a pew once or twice a week for an hour will not get the job done. That MAN behind the pulpit may just be wrong.
