Pastor Sal did a masterful job in explaining the dangers of William P. Young's The Shack:

While we're told the book is fiction, it really is the author's beliefs and follows a religious system that most Christians would reject as heretical. "Fiction" means untrue, but when you write a fiction book about God, it is not some harmless little story. It's a lie about God. I don't know how else to say it. When you are saying things that are not true about God and you are hoping that it will change people's lives, is there something wrong with this picture?

The Shack presents a lopsided view of God as love, but not a God of justice. A God who will not punish sin undermines the central message of the gospel: that Jesus Christ went to the cross to pay the penalty that you and I deserve.

People abuse both teachings on mercy and justice. Yes, Jesus did die on the cross and paid for the sins of those who believe in Him and have asked Him into their heart for salvation. Thus we no longer have any condemnation recorded against us. But sin will affect our life in the here and now, as well as having consequences as far as receiving rewards in heaven. But books like The Shack, though they do offer a disclaimer that they are "fiction" are often used for Bible Study and presented as though they are the gospel.

I believe satan has many wily devices, and books and programs that have a little scripture mixed in here and there and combined along with "human thinking", are used to deceive many.

I really enjoyed the sermon from pastor Massa concerning "The Shack". The doctrine of Universal Reconciliation is apparent throughout the book, and its unscriptural.
