Hamas Chief Vows to Never Recognize Israel

“All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.” (Isaiah 41:11)

As Israel prepared to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah on Saturday, Hamas commemorated its 25th anniversary in the Gaza Strip with vows to never recognize Israel.

Gaza on the eve of Hamas' 25th anniversary

Thousands of Palestinians poured into Gaza City’s al-Katiba Square for a rally to hear Hamas leader Khaled Meshal deliver a defiant anti-Israel speech.

"Palestine is ours from the river to the sea and from the south to the north. There will be no concession on an inch of the land," Meshal said, emphasizing that the Palestinians should have all the territory that makes up modern-day Israel. (Haaretz)

"We will never recognize the legitimacy of the Israeli occupation, and therefore, there is no legitimacy for Israel, no matter how long it will take," he said.

Meshal was born in the West Bank in 1956 and has led Hamas since 1996. He is responsible for killing many Israelis by launching suicide bombings on buses and in other public places.

He had been in exile for 45 years and announced his first visit back to the land after the United Nations General Assembly voted to accept Palestine as a non-member observer state.

Khaled Meshal

Although Hamas and Israel are currently observing a truce brokered by Egypt that ended eight days of fighting in November, peace with Israel was not a theme at the Gaza rally.

"Jihad and the armed resistance is the only true path to liberation," Meshal told the crowds.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded on Sunday, telling his Cabinet:

“We have been exposed once again, over the past day, to the true face of our enemies. They have no intention of compromising with us. They want to destroy our country, but they will obviously fail.”

Later in the day, as the prime minister lit the second candle of Hanukkah at Ariel Sharon Park, he said:

"On Hanukkah, we mark the victory of the heritage of Israel over our enemies, the victory of the few against the many. Then, we stood against the greatest forces in the ancient world, which wanted us to deny our heritage – and we defeated them.

“Today as well, we stand on our truth, on our heritage, and on our rights in the Land of our Patriarchs against those who want to wipe us off our land. They did not succeed then; they will not succeed now.”

“If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you.” (Isaiah 54:15)

Defense Forces Ephraim Division in lighting the Hanukkah menorah on the

Syria’s Stockpile of Chemical Weapons Threatens Israeli Security

“I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.” (Psalms 18:3)

As the situation heats up in Syria, concern over Syria’s weapons of mass destruction is growing.

Although Syria has one of the largest arsenals of chemical weapons in the world, with at least four large chemical weapon production sites and a huge stockpile of blistering agents, the Syrian Foreign Ministry has denied suggestions that the country will resort to using its chemical weapons.

If the Syrian government collapses, however, these lethal weapons may fall into the hands of extremist Islamic groups that would stop at nothing to further their “holy” causes, including the elimination of Israel.

Such concerns have prompted a senior Israeli intelligence official to warn that Israel’s border with Syria may become “the hottest” of all its frontiers with hostile Arab neighbors, including Gaza and Egypt.

The civil war in Syria has resulted in the
death of over 37,000 and untold damage to
property and historic treasures; for instance,
in September, hundreds of shops burned in
this ancient covered marketplace in Aleppo.

The official told Israel’s Channel Two television that although the regime of President Bashar al-Assad has held power through its air force, it may not be able to do so much longer.

“The problem is that recently the Syrian Air Force has been losing one to two planes a day and they cannot keep pace with attrition like that. The collapse of the Syrian Air Force would lead to the outright collapse of the government,” he explained.

If the Assad regime were to fall, he said, the rebels could turn their attention to Israel.

“It’s important to say that we are talking about very dangerous people with experience fighting the US Army in Iraq or against the regime in Libya,” he said.

Summing up the situation, he said, “It really doesn’t matter who controls Syria the day after the regime falls. Every indication is that it is not heading in a positive direction for Israel.”

In Israel's north, Syria shares a border with Israel.

The World’s Nations Condemn Israel’s Plans to Build

“I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.” (Genesis 28:13-14)

The day after the United Nations General Assembly voted to upgrade the Palestinian Authority (PA) to non-member observer state status, Israel announced that it plans to construct 3,000 more housing units for settlers in the contested “E1” area between the Jewish neighborhood of Ma’ale Adumim and East Jerusalem.

International condemnation has been heaped on the Jewish state for its intention to build homes for its citizens in their own Biblical homeland.

The PA claims if Israel builds in this area, Palestinian territorial continuity will broken, and they will be cut off from East Jerusalem, which they envision as their capital.

Spain, France, Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Brazil and Australia have all summoned Israeli ambassadors to explain Israel’s stance.

The US State Department and White House criticized Israel’s announcement, saying it would hinder the renewal of “peace talks.”

According to the Clinton peace plan, Ma'ale Adumim, a suburb of Jerusalem
established in 1975, was to be part of Israel. The Palestinian Authority agreed to
this point. The Israeli government has planned for many years to fill the gap between
Jerusalem and Ma'ale Adumim. This plan, called the E1 project, calls for residential homes
and commercial, industrial and tourism buildings, as well as a nature reserve.

Canada, together with the US and Czech Republic, was one of nine countries in the United Nations that voted against the PA status upgrade; however, even Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper has now told Prime Minister Netanyahu that Canada cannot support the construction of new housing in E1.

Also, at a joint press conference with Netanyahu in Munich last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, "On the question of settlements, we are agreed that we are not agreed.” (Arutz Sheva)

When it came to the PA avoiding negotiations with Israel and going directly to the United Nations for de facto recognition as a sovereign state, Israel and Germany did agree, however, that “one-sided measures must be avoided in the Middle East.”

Germany was one of 41 countries that abstained in the UN vote.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanks German Chancellor
Angela Merkel for her hospitality and friendship to Israel.

In an expression of support for Israeli government plans for E1, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat stated, “When the world talks about a freeze in Jerusalem, I ask, a freeze on what? On the billions we invest in east Jerusalem? Should we stop construction for Arabs, Christians or Jews?

“Or does someone mean that when an entrepreneur approaches me, I should, heaven forbid, ask him what religion he subscribes to so he can receive a permit to build in Jerusalem? That would be horrendous and it negates even US law.”

Speaking at Israel’s National Public Diplomacy Forum, Netanyahu stressed that the conflict between Israel and the Arabs was not about settlements.

“We must constantly repeat that the root of the conflict is the very existence of the State of Israel, the refusal to recognize the State of Israel in any borders whatsoever,” he said.

New York Liberal Synagogue Leaders Support Palestine

The day after the United Nations voted to upgrade the Palestinian Authority, rabbis from a high profile liberal Manhattan synagogue sent out an email in support of the UN’s decision.

The email, issued by leaders of the B’nai Jeshurun synagogue to all its congregants, lauded the UN vote as an “opportunity to celebrate the process that allows a nation to come forward and ask for recognition.”

While most Israelis and Jews in the Diaspora understand that the UN vote represents a threat to the existence of the Jewish State, some members of this prominently liberal congregation that also supports gay marriage apparently welcomed the rabbis and lay leader’s stance.

“I thought it was very courageous of them,” congregant Gil Kulick said. (NY Times)

Other B’nai Jeshurun congregants, like Allan Ripp and his wife, were distressed.

“We are just sort of in a state of shock,” he said.

However, in a second email last week, the rabbis of B’nai Jeshurun, Rabbis Rolando Matalon, Marcelo Bronstein and Felicia Sol, expressed “regret” about the sending of their first message.

the United States on the country's National Register of Historic Places.

Alanis Morissette Refuses to Cancel Concert in Tel Aviv

“Comfort, comfort My people, says your God.” (Isaiah 40:1)

Internationally acclaimed Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, who has been on tour to promote her new album Havoc and Bright Lights, ignored calls from Palestinian supporters to cancel her concert in Tel Aviv last week.

In an open letter to the Grammy award winner, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel group admonished Morissette saying:

“We hope that a personal appeal from us, a campaign that enjoys overwhelming consensus amongst Palestinian civil society, will convince you to cancel this show.

“We would find it especially disturbing should you choose to play in Israel given its recent onslaught on Gaza,” the group’s statement chided.

Alanis Morissette signs autographs for fans.

Messages on Twitter also urged the singer not to cross the “Palestinian picket line” and not to “endorse apartheid.”

In the past, other musicians, such as Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder and Cat Power, have cancelled performances in Israel and at fundraisers in support of Israel due to pressure from pro-Palestinians.

Nevertheless, Morissette, who was raised as a Catholic in Ottawa, Canada, took the stage last Monday at the sold-out Tel Aviv’s Nokia Arena and offered her wholehearted, unabashed support of Israel.

“We love you, we’re with you, America, Canada, all of us,” she told the crowd.

It should be noted that there are 1.5 million Arab Israeli citizens, and thousands of these Arabs sat side by side Jewish Israelis at the concert.

All types of boycotts against Israel hurt both Jews and Arabs.

School of Prophets Opens in Tel Aviv

“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.” (Psalms 119:10)

Although the Bible is full of prophecies, rabbinic consensus maintains that God speaking to man through prophecy ended with the destruction of the Holy Temple.

Since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD, Jewish tradition has taught that prophecy is not allowed among Jews until the time of the generation of redemption that will witness the coming of the Messiah.

Rabbi Shmuel Portman Hapartzi believes that such a time has come.

He has opened a school for prophets in Tel Aviv named The Cain and Abel School of Prophets.

“Our generation has been declared by many as the first generation taking part in the experience of redemption. The Cain and Abel School of Prophets aims to provide the generation of young prophets with authorized sources to direct their spiritual experiences to the way of truth and honesty," the rabbi explains in the introduction to his curriculum. (Ynet)

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the
revered leader of the Chassidic Chabad Jewish
sect, died in 1994.

Although Hapartzi is affiliated with the Chabad movement, there are those in that group who do not accept his vision.

“It's a shame that delusional people, who do not represent the rabbi [Menachem Mendel Schneerson] or his doctrine, continue to desecrate his legacy and drag Chabad's name to bizarre areas,” one member declared.

In spite of the controversy, Rabbi Hapartzi has confirmed his intention to proceed with his course in prophecy.

“We already have 10 students who will start the basic course this week,” he said, adding, “Everything being studied is based on Biblical principles.”

“The truth is that there are many institutions today for the study of Kabbalah, mysticism and black witchcraft, and it does confuse people,” he said.

“I teach strictly kosher material and teach my students to distinguish between true prophecy and false prophecy and between a real dream and a false dream.”

Ultra-Orthodox Jews pray at the Western (Wailing) Wall in Jerusalem.

Even though one fellow member of Chabad called Rabbi Hapartzi “delusional,” a large number of secular and Orthodox Jews consider most Chabad members delusional because many believe that their leader and teacher, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson who died in 1994 is still alive, that he is the Messiah, and is returning soon. (Sound familiar?)
