Syria 'Loads Sarin Nerve Gas in Bombs'

(Dec 05, 2012). Washington, DC, United States (4E) -- A U.S. official has claimed that movements of chemical stockpiles in Syria indicate preparation of the deadly nerve gas sarin. The anonymous official told Wired.com on Monday that the Syrian military are moving together stockpiles of sarin gas ingredients isopropanol, popularly known as rubbing alcohol, and methylphosphonyl difluoride, which were previously stored separately to prevent them from mixing and the accidental release of the nerve agent. The official also said the chemicals also have been moved in such a way that they can be loaded on a plane for dropping.

Sarin has a high volatility relative to similar nerve agents. Inhalation and absorption through the skin pose a great threat. Even vapor concentrations immediately penetrate the skin. Sarin is estimated to be over 500 times more toxic than cyanide
