"Sign of Jonah may include our rapture"

David Flynn says in his 2008 DVD lecture (near the end of disk 2) that he believes that the sign of Jonah was not limited in fulfillment to Jesus' own death and resurrection but that it will also include our resurrection/rapture. This sounded immediately valid to me upon my latest repeat watching of this informative lecture (obtainable on his website linked above).

Matthew 12:
38. Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

I have been impressed over the years at how this situation has been displayed to be so. People who require a sign before they will believe do not receive one (beyond the resurrection) because God must be approached by faith and then God rewards the believer for exercising the faith he has even if it is as small as a mustard seed. But the resurrection of Jesus is the one sign that may be studied apart from faith even by the profound skeptic and in spite of himself, lead him to believe. Such cases we all may have heard about such as C. S. Lewis or more recently journalist Lee Strobel, who resented his wife's faith and sought to once for all prove Christianity to be false and in the process became a believer. He now, like Lewis before him is a great asset and advocate for the faith he once attacked.

But as I thought about what Flynn said it occurred to me that the same thing would indeed be so at our rapture that was so at Jesus' resurrection. People who see our rapture would be seeing a sign that will prove for them that what we "kooks" have been harping on for so long is indeed true after all. This sign will be so obvious that they will believe it and not fall for the cover stories brought about by the news media.

As I was thinking of this, I suddenly remembered a line from an old Emerson Lake and Palmer song called "Stones of Years" from the 70's "Tarkus" album that sounds like this moment: "You'll see the sign and realize your sin"
