The U.S. House of Representatives today voted overwhelmingly to pass the Protect Life Act, H.R. 358, by a vote of 251 to 172 – including the support of 15 Democrats. This bipartisan bill will strip abortion funding and abortion related mandates from ObamaCare.
Since we first told you about this bill earlier this week, over 3,000 of you took immediate action, calling or emailing Congress to voice your support, and an additional 1,000 of you sent messages to the White House urging the President not to veto this important pro-life legislation through ACLJ.org.
The Protect Life Act clearly provides that “No funds authorized or appropriated by [ObamaCare] . . . may be used to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion . . . .”
The bill also prohibits discrimination by any federal, state, or local agency of a healthcare provider that refuses to participate in abortions or abortion related services.
This is a major victory in the fight to undo the pro-abortion aspects of ObamaCare, which has essentially become a bailout for the abortion industry since its passage.
Now, this life-saving piece of legislation moves to the Senate where pro-abortion forces are sure to press hard for its defeat. This is once again an important opportunity to put Senators on the record – to find out if they are truly pro-life.
While thousands of you have taken a stand by calling your Member of Congress, it is crucial that we keep up the momentum from this victory. Please contact your Senators and urge them to support this pro-life legislation.
Please also continue to contact the White House, urging President Obama to sign this bill.
As the White House’s own statement threatening a veto acknowledges, “H.R. 358 goes well beyond the safeguards found in current law . . . .” This is precisely why it is critical that this legislation be passed and signed in to law, to strengthen the safeguards against taxpayer-funded abortions, and ultimately to save lives.
