Hello, John and Doves,

While we're waiting for Jesus, we might as well keep our eyes on Him by studying His Word. To that end, I present--for your consideration--another study comparing books of the Bible with Isaiah. This is just an outline. Maybe some of you can fill in your own favorite verses from these books and find matching thoughts in the Tanakh (Old Testament). Enjoy and be edified!

Biblical Mapping from the Last Seven

Books of the Bible onto Isaiah



1 Peter key verse:

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Concept: Humility forms the foundation for blessing and honor.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34

Jesus says:

“Destroy this temple, and in three days, I will lift it up.” John 2:19

Isaiah tie-in:

“ ‘Foreigners will come to rebuild your towns.

And their kings will serve you.

For though I destroyed you in my anger,

I will now have mercy on you through my grace.” Isaiah 60:10





2 Peter key verse:

“For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw His majestic splendor with our own eyes when He received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.’ We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with Him on the Holy Mountain.”

2 Peter 1:16-18

Concept: It is impossible to separate the truth of God from His majesty.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

“The LORD went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and He provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. And the LORD did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.” Exodus 13:21-22

Confirmation from the Psalms:

“Who is the King of Glory?

The LORD, strong and mighty;

the LORD, invincible in battle.” Psalm 24:8

Jesus says:

“ ‘Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ ” Matthew 28:20

Isaiah tie-in [applying to Jesus Christ, then (v. 1-2a) and in the future (v. 2b):

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me,

for the LORD has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to comfort the broken hearted

and to proclaim that the captives will be released

and prisoners will be freed.

He has sent me to tell those who mourn

that the time of the LORD’s favor has come,

and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.” Isaiah 61:1-2

1 John key verse:

“I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him. And since we know He hears us whenever we make our requests, we also know that He will give us what we ask for.” 1 John 5:13-15

Concept: Believers have “face” with God through Jesus, God’s Son.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in [from Job’s sixth speech, a response to Bildad]:

“ ‘But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,

and He will stand upon the earth at last.

And after my body has decayed,

yet in my body I will see God!

I will see Him for myself.

Yes, I will see Him with my own eyes.

I am overwhelmed at the thought!”

Jesus says,

“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.”

John 10:14-15

Isaiah tie-in:

“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls;

they will pray day and night, continually.

Take no rest, all you who pray to the LORD.

Give the LORD no rest until He completes His work,

until He makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.” Isaiah 62:6-7

2 John key verse:

“I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.”

2 John 7

Concept: Jesus is God come in the flesh, whereas the Antichrist is one dedicated to the flesh who wishes to elevate himself to godhood—and sell this lie to others.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

“ ‘...I, yes I, am the LORD,

and there is no other Savior.

First I predicted your rescue,

then I saved you and proclaimed it to the world.

No foreign god has ever done this.

You are witnesses that I am the only God,’

says the LORD.”

From eternity to eternity I am God.

No one can snatch anyone out of my hand.

No one can undo what I have done.”

Isaiah 43:11-13 [see also John 10:27-30 and Isaiah 46:9-10]

Jesus says,

“For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.” Matthew 25:24-25

Isaiah tie-in [2 John is the 63rd book of the Bible]:

“I will tell of the LORD’s unfailing love.

I will praise the LORD for all He has done.

I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel,

which He has granted according to His mercy and love.” Isaiah 63:7

3 John key verse:

“For I hope to see you soon, and then we will talk face to face.” 3 John 14

Concept: We are sojourners here on the earth. Every day, we long to see with our eyes the One who dwells in our hearts.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

1 “Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD?

Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?

Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right,

speaking the truth from sincere hearts.

2 “Those who refuse to gossip

or harm their neighbors

or speak evil of their friends.

3 “Those who despise flagrant sinners,

and honor the faithful followers of the LORD,

and keep their promises even when it hurts.

4 “Those who lend money without charging interest,

and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent.

Such people will stand firm forever.” Psalm 15

Jesus says,

“ ‘Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!’ ” John 15:26

Isaiah tie-in:

“When you came down long ago,

you did awesome deeds

beyond our highest expectations.

And oh, how the mountains quaked!

“For since the world began,

no ear has heard,

and no eye has seen a God like you,

who works for those who wait for Him!” Isaiah 64:3-4

Jude key verse:

”Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into His glorious presence without a single fault.” Jude 24

Concept: God is Father to all believers.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

“I lay down and slept,

yet I woke up in safety,

for the LORD was watching over me.” Psalm 3:5

Jesus says,

“ ‘I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.” John 5:24

Isaiah tie-in:

“I will answer them before they even call to me.

While they are still talking about their needs,

I will go ahead and answer their prayers!” Isaiah 65:24

Revelation key verse (The Glorified Jesus Christ speaking):

“ ‘Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Revelation 22:12

Concept: The one and only Savior is soon coming to rule the whole earth.

Tanakh (Old Testament) tie-in:

“Once I was young, and now I am old.

Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned

or their children begging for bread....

“The LORD rescues the godly;

He is their fortress [Petra?] in times of trouble.

The LORD helps them,

rescuing them from the wicked.

He saves them,

and they find shelter [Tabernacles, 5776?] in Him.” Psalm 37:25,39-40

Jesus says [to His faithful apostles, after the Resurrection],

“ ‘If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.’ ” John 20:22

Isaiah tie-in [the Super-sign of the end of the age]:

“ ‘Before the birth pangs even begin,

Jerusalem gives birth to a son.

“ ‘Who has ever seen anything as strange as this?

Who ever heard of such a thing?

Has a nation ever been born in a single day?

Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment?

But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pangs begin,

her children will be born.

“ ‘Would I ever bring this nation to the point of birth

and then not deliver it?’ asks the LORD.

‘No! I would never keep this nation from being born,’

says your God.” Isaiah 66:7-9

Conclusion:

" 'I am the First and the Last;

there is no other God.

Who is like me?

Let him step forward and prove to you his power.

Let him do as I have done since ancient times

when I established a people and explained its future.

Do not tremble; do not be afraid.

Did I not proclaim My purposes for you long ago?

You are My witnesses--is there any other God?

No! There is no other Rock--not one!' " Isaiah 44:6-8

Confirmation from Psalm 111:

"He has paid a full ransom for His people.

He has guaranteed His covenant with them forever.

What a holy, awe-inspiring name He has!

"Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true wisdom.

All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom." Psalm 111:9-10
