When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the donkey, he was presenting himself as the Lamb without blemish to be the fulfillment of Passover. After his Triumphal Entry through the crowds waving palms, Jesus wept over the city for not knowing the time of its visitation. Palm Sunday was the day and it was Nisan 10. Nisan 10 was the original day Israel was to select a lamb to prepare for the sacrifice they were to do on Nisan 14, which provided the blood to be applied to their doorposts to protect them from the final plague in Egypt. As only God can do, Nisan 10 was on a Sunday in AD 32 and the slated day for Jesus’ formal presentation as the Lamb.

This day in AD 32 has been shown to be the fulfillment of the 69 weeks from the Decree to rebuild Jerusalem and its walls by Artaxerxes Longimanus in 445 BC. These 69 weeks are found in Daniel Chapter 9 and after the 69th week the Messiah was to be cut off (killed), but not for himself. Then Jerusalem would also be destroyed, as it was in AD 70. The final 70th week still remains in the future. But the point here is that from 445 BC to AD 32 is 476 years, which when converted to the biblical 360-day years, it equals 483 years or 69 times 7 or 69 weeks. But let us get back to Nisan 10 or also known as the tenth day of the first month.

Nisan 10 had another significance in the history of Israel. Forty years after the Exodus, Moses died and leadership was passed onto Joshua. As many know, Joshua and Jesus are really the same name. However, Joshua was one of two of the twelve spies who did not fear going into the land “filled with giants”. So after the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, Joshua led Israel across the Jordan River on Nisan 10. According to Archbishop Ussher, that was in 1451 BC. The chronology consistently held here is that it was in 1452 BC, which is only slightly different.

The thing of interest here is the time between Joshua’s entry into the Land on Nisan 10, 1452 BC and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Nisan 10, AD 32 . With no such thing as year 0, that means the time between both events was 1,483 years. Considering that to the Palm Sunday date of Jesus Triumphal Entry according to Daniel factored into a separate 483 360-day year countdown, it seems fairly provocative that from Joshua it was 1,000 plus 483 calendar years. Considering 2 Peter 3:8 and “a day as a thousand years,” it may add another aspect to the term, “the long day of Joshua”.

Whatever the significance, or further significance to be determined, clearly God has demonstrated His plan and orchestration of human events within the confines of time and human freewill. This here is another aspect to that plan and a countdown to our Savior Joshua/Jesus, yet we still await the fulfillment of the seven future years to complete the 490 years–“seventy times seven”.

It is true that, if a prophet foretells something that fails to come to pass, he is a false prophet (Deuteronomy 18:20-22), but foretelling the future correctly is not the determining factor when looking at false prophets. The real issue is whether one who claims to be representing God and speaking for Him, is doing so accurately or falsely. A prophet may accurately predict an event or demonstrate supernatural power, but if he is leading people away from the true worship of the true God, he is a false prophet.

Not every false prophet will have each of these characteristics, but as generalities, they describe men who are much more concerned about their own situation, well-being, reputation, autonomy, and position than about accurately representing God. We will know these men to be false by the overall fruits they produce, even as they speak clever words that may even contain a degree of truth. This is seen in Jesus' warning in Matthew 7:15-20:



If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods"—which you have not known—"and let us serve them," you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:1-5)

"Date Setting"

As long as we are waiting on the Lord’s return, there will be date setters certain of the Rapture event’s timing. I’ll admit to being skeptical of those who are sure the Rapture is going to be on a certain day. Time after time we’ve seen those predicted days come and go while still being bound to the same old body. Invariably, the same folks will boldly predict new dates based on some new found eclipse cycle, clock sighting or corrected math. I wonder at the hubris of some being ever dogmatic, even when faced with the hard facts clearly dispelling their notions. I admire the humility of others openly admitting to getting it wrong, a lesson in character for me. There are a myriad of theories and positions: some very thoughtful (Biblically) out there; and many others that seem to be just pure necromantic hooey. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t despise all of those prophesies IF they be harmless, however hokey and failing (1 Thess. 5:20, 1 Cor. 13:8). From them comes this type of discourse and new knowledge. In the very next verse (I Thess. 5:21) Paul exhorts us to PROVE ALL THINGS; hold fast to that which is good. The failed supposition has value in that it can be eliminated or ‘let go’ so that the other possible truths can be pursued and proven.

Even greater than the pursuit of our true date of departure is the fellowship we have in the here and now. His Spirit is also here now among us, something we should never forget. Quenching the Spirit is probably worse than espousing the most absurd rapture-date theory, so be careful and sure with your rebukes. Don’t stifle another’s words as God may have inspired some part for His own reasons. After all, NO ONE has figured out the right date yet, including your personal best guess. If you feel God has inspired you to say something though, by all means, shout it from the rooftops!!!!
