The Stand

The Stand by Stephen King.

I'm half way through this book and not much seems to be happening. Does it get any better in the second half or am I wasting valuable reading time?

What does the panel think?

Re: The Stand

Hi Pete
The Tv miniseries is a lot better than the book in my opinion - it gets a bit stupid towards the end, but there is some pretty good acting in it - at times, it does have a slight Survivors feel about it.

For quite a while now I have been avoiding this book, mainly because I have read other Stephen King books and not enjoyed them.

Every time I mention to someone that I like Post Apocalypse fiction they say " have you read The Stand?" Eventually I gave in and decided to try it. OK, so it is set after a mass extinction event, but there's not much surviving going on. Just a lot of hocus pokus.

Am I being too harsh or is this a bit of a B Movie book?

I wasn't aware there was a TV series. Maybe I should give that a try instead!

Re: The Stand

If you have Sky or freesat, it has been shown a few times on the Horror channel. There is a DVD too, but the editing is a bit extreem.

I always thought that I was the only one in the universe who did not like Stephen King books.
I think I will give this book a miss.
