Daniel’s Seventy Weeks Fulfilled In Yahshua Messiah

Introduction

Within Christianity, there are two main interpretations of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy. One is the Historical Interpretation, which states that all of the details of this prophecy were fulfilled by the First Advent of Yahshuah Messiah (Jesus Christ).

The other interpretation is the Futuristic Interpretation, which states that only some of the details were fulfilled by Messiah. One major exception involves the mysterious 3 and one half year period, which is claimed to occur AFTER Messiah is crucified. Since Messiah is PRESUMED TO BE crucified “in the midst of” the last (70th) week, there is a dispute as to when this 3&1/2 year period is actually fulfilled. The futurists claim that it does not occur until the End Times.
In this sermon, I will present a new interpretation, which I believe clears up the confusing language of Daniel 9:27.

The Jews, in contradistinction to Christianity, totally disregard the Messianic significance of Daniel’s 70 Weeks, because they do not recognize Jesus Christ as the Messiah, even though He very obviously fulfilled all of these prophecies. Rather than face the fact that Yahshua personally fulfilled these prophecies, the rabbis of Judaism ignore this prophecy and pretend that it doesn’t exist.

The Jews have even tampered with the text, in order to make it appear that Daniel 9:27 is not talking about the Messiah. For example, in the Jewish Publication Society version of the Tanakh, the phrase, “anoint the Most Holy” is changed to “anoint the Holy of Holies.” Other Jewish versions change the language to “holy place.” This is a clear attempt to replace a personage with a place or space. But if a place is anointed, and not the Messiah, the prophecy becomes obscure; and the question is raised, “Why is a place anointed? What is the purpose?” No one knows! But the Hebrew word, Maschiyach (Strong’s #4899), can only mean the person anointed.

With regard to all of Scriptural prophecy, I am a historicist. This means that all of the Bible’s prophecies fit historical facts. The only prophecies that don’t fit historical facts are those we do not understand or those which have yet to be fulfilled. In this essay, I will be taking the position that Daniels’ prophecy was completely fulfilled by Messiah’s First Advent.



Daniel, Chapter 9

Daniel, Chapter 9, begins with these words:

1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Daniel is here telling us that he now understands the meaning of Jeremiah’s prophecy regarding the 70 years of captivity that the House of Judah is to experience in Babylon.
