Why were all expeditions focused on the South Pole after 1928?

Why, after Germany's surrender in 1045 did Admiral Bryd return once again to Antartica?

Some say it was because German military were there and also because there was a German Base located in the depths of the ice.

According to this article, none of this is true:

Byrd told that the Antarctica was the most important source of untouched resources.

Operation Deep Freeze ran from 1955 to 1956. So what happened next? NOTHING. The whole operation just stopped.

Please excuse the typing error of the date of the end of WWII with German. It is obviously 1945. Anyway, within 3 short years, all the world's attention began to focus away from the North Pole but to Antarctica.
