Trump warns that by attacking Assad, US will ‘end up fighting Russia’
US President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed that he will most likely abandon the Obama administration policy on Syria to seek a possible rapprochement with Russia on the issue of Assad.

6.2 quake strikes off Japan
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, according to USGS data. TEPCO said the quake did not affect the integrity of its crippled ********* nuclear plant, located relatively close to its epicenter. The quake struck around 9:43pm GMT on Friday, some 65 km east-northeast of the city of Sendai.

Obama administration suspends Pacific trade deal vote effort
U.S. President Barack Obama's administration has suspended its efforts to win congressional approval for his Asian free-trade deal before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, saying on Friday that TPP's fate was up to Trump and Republican lawmakers. Administration officials also said Obama would try to explain the situation...the 11 other countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership pact...

Damascus, allies upbeat on Trump win, await his policies
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his allies hope to benefit from Donald Trump’s election win, believing it has saved them from the risks of an interventionist Clinton administration. Trump's win may have already shifted the course of the Russian-backed military campaign in Aleppo. A senior pro-Assad official told Reuters that plans to capture the rebel-held east by January were shaped around an assumption Clinton would win.

Bagram blast: Explosion hits US airbase in Afghanistan
A huge explosion at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan, the largest US military facility in the country, has killed at least four people. At least 14 others were wounded in the blast. The Taliban said one of their suicide bombers carried out the attack. The attack is being seen as a major security breach in one of the best protected places in Afghanistan.

Egypt wins approval for $12bn loan from the IMF
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a three-year $12bn (€11bn) loan for Egypt to help the country out of its deep economic crisis. Egypt will receive $2.75bn immediately, with the rest subject to its economic performance and further reforms. Syria conflict: Food rations run out in rebel-held Aleppo

Gunman attacked the building after the blast, in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, battling with German and Afghan forces.
