Again, we have the story of another instance in which David's followers thought they were doing good for David to avenge Saul's constant persecution of him.

But, because David did not focus upon avenging Saul's persecution of his person that became so harsh that David was actually running for his life and hiding out in the hills of Israel; still David would not kill Saul even though he had the opportunity to do so himself. He even snuck into Saul's tent and left evidence to show he had been there but spared the king's life.

David respected God's anointment of King Saul so much, he dared not to put a hand against Saul. And he did not abide with the works of his men who thought David would be pleased of what they did on his behalf.

So, he called for them to be killed and their hands and feet cut off because they had done the deed with their hands and then ran to him to bring the news.

The other man who thought David would be happy to hear King Saul was dead was the one that King Saul himself asked to finish him off when he tried to kill himself by falling upon his own sword rather than let the Philistine take him alive. David had that man killed.

David was a man after God's own heart, respecting His Authority and fighting the battles on behalf of the Hebrew's right to live in the Land of Promise.

That is not to say David was perfect. He was not; he had the husband of the woman he desired killed so he could have her and the child born of that illicit affair was not allowed to live by God.

"There is not one righteous, no not one". Romans 3:10

He is our Righteousness. Let this be a lesson to those that think they no longer sin after they have become born-again. While you are in the flesh, you will still have that part of you that fights against the Righteousness given to you to be Saved for the Life to come. That is called the Battle of This Life.
