Russia's Rosneft, partners to invest around $12.9 billion in India's Essar Oil: CEO

A group led by Russian oil major Rosneft (ROSN.MM) will invest around $12.9 billion in India's Essar Oil ESRO.CL, Chief Executive Igor Sechin told reporters on Saturday. Sechin said a refinery and port owned by the Indian firm were worth around $10 billion and $2.9 billion respectively. India and Russia signed a deal on Saturday to pave the way for a group led by Rosneft to acquire Essar.




B'tselem goes to UN, demands end to 'occupation'

The UN Security Council held a special session...on the subject of the Israeli settlements. Israeli left-wing NGO B'tselem was invited...to speak at the council condemning Israel over settlement activities. B'tselem chairman Hagi El-Ad, used his time at the UN to attack the Israeli government’s policies, blame the government for violence against the Palestinians, “take action (against Israel), now.”




'Posturing' Russians to send aircraft carrier and fleet along the English Channel

Russia is expected to sail its only aircraft carrier through the English Channel later this month amid strained relations between London and Moscow over the Syria crisis. Royal Navy chiefs and their Nato allies are drawing up plans to escort up to eight Russian warships which are due to leave port imminently to join the country’s air strike campaign against Syrian rebels.

US and Russia discuss Syria ceasefire in Switzerland

New talks are set to start in Switzerland as the US and Russia try to broker another ceasefire in Syria. US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russia's Sergei Lavrov are meeting delegates from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Qatar in the city of Lausanne. Since the collapse of a short-lived truce in September, Syria and its ally Russia have stepped up bombardment of rebel-held eastern Aleppo.




Yemen conflict: Saudis blame funeral hall bombing on mistake

The Saudi-led coalition bombing Houthi rebels in Yemen says it attacked a funeral hall in the capital, Sanaa, based on "bad information". At least 140 people were killed, most of them civilians, in the attack on 8 October - one of the single worst death tolls in the two-year conflict. A Saudi inquiry blames "non-compliance with coalition rules of engagement" and "the issuing of incorrect information".
