"And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment."

These representatives of the saints in heaven are said to be around the throne. In the passage in Canticles, where Solomon sings of the King sitting at his table, some render it "a round table." From this, some expositors, I think, without straining the text, have said, "There is an equality among the saints." That idea is conveyed by the equal nearness of the four and twenty elders. The condition of glorified spirits in heaven is that of nearness to Christ, clear vision of His glory, constant access to His court, and familiar fellowship with His person: nor is there any difference in this respect between one saint and another, but all the people of God, apostles, martyrs, ministers, or private and obscure Christians, shall all be seated near the throne, where they shall for ever gaze upon their exalted Lord, and be satisfied with His love. They shall all be near to Christ, all ravished with His love, all eating and drinking at the same table with Him, all equally beloved as His favourites and friends even if not all equally rewarded as servants.




Let believers on earth imitate the saints in heaven in their nearness to Christ. Let us on earth be as the elders are in heaven, sitting around the throne. May Christ be the object of our thoughts, the centre of our lives. How can we endure to live at such a distance from our Beloved? Lord Jesu, draw us nearer to Thyself. Say unto us, "Abide in Me, and I in you"; and permit us to sing, "His left hand is under my head, and His right hand doth embrace me."

O lift me higher, nearer Thee,
And as I rise more pure and meet,
O let my soul's humility
Make me lie lower at Thy feet;
Less trusting self, the more I prove
The blessed comfort of Thy love.

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

This topic of the Twenty-Four Elders is special in the fact that these have been special men...some believe there are 12 from the OT and 12 from the NT, who have done their parts in Leadership. This is not speaking about all Saints being equal before The Father.

There is a Hierarchy in Heaven. In fact there are three main heavens with the middle Heaven having 7 levels to it, there-fore it is a bit of a stretch to think that all that get saved are of equal personage in heaven and all sit around a table with the Saviour.

We are all saved under the Blood of the Lamb but our rewards depend upon our own efforts made in this life. So, in this case, I do not quite agree with Spurgeon.

The chapter of John 14 may seems to be a contradiction of equality of the Son with the Father. It does not have to be that way at all, if the reader keeps in mind, that Yahuah is the one who emptied Himself in order to come in the flesh as a man, perfect and sinless. He was the Perfect, Spotless Lamb of God.

As a man, He no longer was in His position in Heaven but the Holy Spirit moved under His Command. As a man who suffered on our behalf, he was less than the Father, yet, he was equal with the Father.

When people say that Christ/Yahuah was another son, an elder son, that is blasphemy. The Angels were created. Yahusha was not created, He always was. He is the Word. It is the Word that called all things, visible and invisible into being.

For the sake of humans that seem to have a hard time understanding these Supernatural things of His Kingdom, the scriptures refer to Yahusha as Begotten but never created.

He sits at the right hand of the Father. That, is not to say there are two thrones up there in Heaven but it is a figure of speech showing that He, Christ, has all power and authority.

HE IS THE VISIBLE GOD, WHO IS Spirit and who must be worshipped in Spirit and in Truth.

Thanks for posting this Steven. It needs to be understood for those who have no trouble talking about Christ the Messiah but who have taken away His Deity.
