Juno skims Jupiter's pole in first orbital flyby
NASA's Juno orbiter has made its first and nearest orbital flyby of Jupiter, snapping the closest close-up ever of giant planet's north pole. The unmanned probe made its 130,000 mph (208,000 km/h) approach at 6:44 am PDT (13:44 GMT) on Saturday, passing within 2,600 mi (4,200 km) of Jupiter's cloud tops in the first and closest of 36 flybys it will make during its mission.

The Canadian government is warning its citizens that it knows of at least 180 people who have traveled abroad to join terror groups and is tracking another 60 “extremist travelers who had returned to Canada,” according to a new government report that provides further evidence of the Islamic State’s migration to North America.

COSMIC RAYS INTENSIFY
Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus have been using helium balloons to monitor cosmic rays in the stratosphere over California. Their latest data show an increase of almost 13% since 2015. They can seed clouds, trigger lightning, and penetrate commercial airplanes. Sanhedrin Appoints High Priest in Preparation for Third Temple
A significant step was recently taken towards reinstating the Temple service when the nascent Sanhedrin selected Rabbi Baruch Kahane as the next Kohen Gadol (high priest). If the political conditions should change, allowing the Jews access to the Temple Mount, they will be required by Torah law to bring the sacrifices. Pew found that 44 percent of all homes have guns, while 51 percent do not. It bucks the trend of other polls, namely CBS News, which found that the percentage of gun ownership hovered in the mid-30s.

7.4 magnitude earthquake strikes northwest of Ascension Island
An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 has struck 975km northwest of Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. There was no immediate warning of any tsunami triggered by the quake, which was 10km deep, the USGS said.

Turkish army thrusts deeper into Syria, monitor says 35 villagers killed
Turkey's army and its allies thrust deeper into Syria on Sunday, seizing territory controlled by Kurdish-aligned forces...of a cross-border campaign that a monitoring group said had killed at least 35 villagers. Turkish warplanes roared into northern Syria at daybreak and artillery pounded...sites held by the Kurdish YPG militia, after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported fierce overnight fighting around two villages.

Yemen suicide attack clamed by IS 'kills dozens' in Aden
At least 60 people have been killed in a suicide car bombing at a military facility in the southern Yemen city of Aden, doctors say. A training camp, or compound used by the pro-government Popular Resistance militia, was hit, reports say. So-called Islamic State said it carried out the attack.

Calais chief wants new migrant border deal with UK
Migrants in Calais seeking asylum in the UK should be allowed to lodge their claim in France, the president of the region has told the BBC. Xavier Bertrand said people living in the camp known as the Jungle should be able to apply at a "hotspot" in France rather than waiting to reach Britain. UK officials currently check passports in France, stopping many from entering.

Heavy casualties as Libyan forces advance on IS in Sirte
Militia loyal to Libya's unity government have suffered heavy casualties as they push into the last two areas of Sirte held by the so-called Islamic State group (IS). Hospital sources told reporters that 34 government soldiers had been killed and 150 wounded in fierce fighting. The coastal city was seized by the militant group in February 2015.

Iran deploys latest long-range missile system at nuclear facility
Tehran deployed a Russian-made long-range missile system to increase the defense of the Fordo nuclear facility, Iranian state television said Sunday, according to an AFP report.
