It’s a company you probably didn’t even know existed, but it probably knows more about you than some of your closest friends. IDI, or Interactive Data Intelligence, has only been in business for one year but already, it’s built a profile on every American adult: their addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, the kind of car they drive, voter registrations, hunting permits and criminal and civil citation history.

Turkey's Erdogan stages mass rally in show of strength after coup attempt
Hundreds of thousands of Turks are expected at a rally in Istanbul on Sunday summoned by President Tayyip Erdogan to denounce a failed coup, a show of strength staged in the face of Western criticism of widespread purges and detentions. The "Democracy and Martyrs' Rally"...caps three weeks of nightly demonstrations by Erdogan's supporters, many wrapped in the red Turkish flag, in squares around the country.

Major EU nations including France, Italy and Spain are clubbing together to form a new alliance with the aim of wrestling back economic power from the German leader. Tropical Storm Earl: Landslides kill six in Mexico
Six people died in eastern Mexico when their homes were buried under landslides caused by heavy rain in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Earl. The dead included a married couple and their one-year-old son, officials said. It happened on Saturday in Veracruz state, and there are warnings that rivers may flood in the neighbouring state of Puebla.

Macedonia storm: At least 15 die overnight in freak deluge
At least 15 people have died overnight as storms caused Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, to flood. Their bodies were found before 8:30 local time (06:30 GMT)on Sunday, an official said. Six people are still missing. Some of the victims drowned in their cars. Parts of the city's ring road have been swept away in the floods, dragging cars into nearby fields.

China launches first mobile telecoms satellite from Beijing
China has launched its first mobile telecommunications satellite. The Tiantong-01 satellite will establish a mobile network serving China, the Middle East, Africa and other areas, the state run Xinhua news agency reported. It was sent into space after midnight local time in Beijing (16:00 GMT) on Sunday.

Third tunnel this month collapses on Gazan terror operatives
Khaled Mithqal al-Hour, a member of Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzeldin Qassam Brigades, died in a tunnel collapse on Saturday evening, according to a statement on Hamas’s official website. “The martyr Hour met his Lord and departed from our world following a collapse of a resistance tunnel,” the statement said.

Twenty-four people attending a music festival in Ohio were hospitalized Saturday from drug overdoses, according to the Richland County Sheriff's office. No one lost consciousness and everyone seems to be OK, Sheriff's Capt. Donald Zehner said Saturday afternoon.

Iran executes nuclear scientist who had ‘defected’ to US
An Iranian nuclear scientist who had defected to the US was executed in Iran, according to reports in the local press on Saturday. Shahram Amiri was a nuclear researcher at Malek Ashtar University of Technology and worked for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization. He is said to have had in-depth knowledge of Iran’s rogue nuclear program.

Netanyahu rejects Obama’s assertion that Israel now supports Iran accord
Israel on Friday firmly rejected US President Barack Obama’s claim that its officials now support last year’s nuclear deal with Iran. Far from accepting Obama’s assertion, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s stance had not changed, while the Israeli Defense Ministry compared the accord to the Munich Agreement signed by the European powers with Nazi Germany in 1938.

China's air force sent bombers and fighter jets on "combat patrols" near contested islands in the South China Sea, in a move a senior colonel said was part of an effort to normalize such drills and respond to security threats. The exercises come at a time of heightened tension in the disputed waters after an arbitration court in The Hague ruled last month that China did not have historic rights to the South China Sea.

Brave man who stood up to Munich shooter now facing prosecution for 'INSULTING killer'
A MAN who famously stood up to the Munich shooter after he killed nine people is facing being charged by a prosecutor for insulting the killer. Thomas Salbey, 57, saw the shooting happening from his balcony in the Bavarian capital on July 22. In an attempt to stop 18 year old Ali Sonboly from further slaughtering people, he swore at the shooter as he was standing in a car park below.

Swedish church to use drones to drop thousands of Bibles in ISIS-controlled Iraq
A major evangelical free church in Sweden is preparing to use drones to drop thousands of Bibles into areas of Iraq controlled by Islamic State. The Livets Ord (Word of Life) church in Uppsala in the north of Sweden has said it will use drones flying at high altitude to release thousands of small, electronic Bibles into Iraq.

Geologists have found evidence for an ancient megaflood which they say is a good match for the mythical deluge at the dawn of China's first dynasty. The legend of Emperor Yu states that he tamed the flooded Yellow River by dredging and redirecting its channels, thereby laying the foundations for the Xia dynasty and Chinese civilisation. Previously, no scientific evidence had been found for a corresponding flood.

US jobs growth beats forecasts in July
The US economy added a stronger-than-expected 255,000 jobs in July, fuelling speculation that interest rates could rise before the end of the year. The figure was below June's upwardly revised figure of 292,000 jobs, but was far higher than analysts' forecasts of between 175,000 and 180,000. The US unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9%.

One of Australia's new senators has said climate change is a global conspiracy created by bankers seeking to establish a worldwide government. Wooden pallets stacked with euros, Swiss francs and other currencies were flown into Iran on an unmarked cargo plane, according to these officials. The U.S. procured the money from the central banks of the Netherlands and Switzerland, they said.

US agency lifts ban on funding human–animal hybrids
The new rules shorten the developmental window during which human cells can be introduced into non-human primate embryos, disallowing it before development of the central nervous system. This is intended to limit the number of human cells that would make up the chimaera’s brain. They also prohibit breeding animals with human cells, so as to prevent a human-like embryo from growing in a non-human womb, or the birth of an animal that is more humanized than its parents.

Turkey Issues Formal Warrant for U.S.-Based Muslim Cleric Gülen
An Istanbul court issued the warrant for “ordering the 15 July coup attempt” that left 270 dead, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency. Gülen, who resides in Pennsylvania and has lived in the U.S. since 1999, strongly denies any involvement in or prior knowledge of the coup. Erdoğan, who used to be allied with Gülen, now views the preacher as a major political threat and has led an effort to purge the country of anything he views as connected to the Gülenist movement.
