China conducts 'combat patrols' over contested islands
China's air force sent bombers and fighter jets on "combat patrols" near contested islands in the South China Sea, in a move a senior colonel said was part of an effort to normalize such drills and respond to security threats. The exercises come at a time of heightened tension in the disputed waters after an arbitration court in The Hague ruled last month that China did not have historic rights to the South China Sea.

Brave man who stood up to Munich shooter now facing prosecution for 'INSULTING killer'
A MAN who famously stood up to the Munich shooter after he killed nine people is facing being charged by a prosecutor for insulting the killer. Thomas Salbey, 57, saw the shooting happening from his balcony in the Bavarian capital on July 22. In an attempt to stop 18 year old Ali Sonboly from further slaughtering people, he swore at the shooter as he was standing in a car park below.

Swedish church to use drones to drop thousands of Bibles in ISIS-controlled Iraq
A major evangelical free church in Sweden is preparing to use drones to drop thousands of Bibles into areas of Iraq controlled by Islamic State. The Livets Ord (Word of Life) church in Uppsala in the north of Sweden has said it will use drones flying at high altitude to release thousands of small, electronic Bibles into Iraq.

Rocks tell story of China's great flood
Geologists have found evidence for an ancient megaflood which they say is a good match for the mythical deluge at the dawn of China's first dynasty. The legend of Emperor Yu states that he tamed the flooded Yellow River by dredging and redirecting its channels, thereby laying the foundations for the Xia dynasty and Chinese civilisation. Previously, no scientific evidence had been found for a corresponding flood.

US jobs growth beats forecasts in July
The US economy added a stronger-than-expected 255,000 jobs in July, fuelling speculation that interest rates could rise before the end of the year. The figure was below June's upwardly revised figure of 292,000 jobs, but was far higher than analysts' forecasts of between 175,000 and 180,000. The US unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9%.

Australia senator Malcolm Roberts calls climate change a UN conspiracy
One of Australia's new senators has said climate change is a global conspiracy created by bankers seeking to establish a worldwide government. Malcolm Roberts won a Queensland Senate seat as member of the anti-immigration One Nation party in recent elections. He says the United Nations is using climate change to lay the foundations for an unelected global government.

Chinese fleet sails near Japanese Senkaku islands
Japan says China has sailed a fleet of more than 230 vessels - most of them fishing boats - close to Japanese-controlled waters in the East China Sea. Tokyo says the fleet included six coastguard ships, three of which appeared to be armed. Japan has summoned Chinese diplomats to protest.

Wooden pallets stacked with euros, Swiss francs and other currencies were flown into Iran on an unmarked cargo plane, according to these officials. The U.S. procured the money from the central banks of the Netherlands and Switzerland, they said.

US agency lifts ban on funding human–animal hybrids
The new rules shorten the developmental window during which human cells can be introduced into non-human primate embryos, disallowing it before development of the central nervous system. This is intended to limit the number of human cells that would make up the chimaera’s brain. They also prohibit breeding animals with human cells, so as to prevent a human-like embryo from growing in a non-human womb, or the birth of an animal that is more humanized than its parents.

Turkey Issues Formal Warrant for U.S.-Based Muslim Cleric Gülen
An Istanbul court issued the warrant for “ordering the 15 July coup attempt” that left 270 dead, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.
