EU BACKLASH: Brexit ‘TSUNAMI’ expected as 34 referendums set to rock union
THE European Union (EU) is about to be rocked by a “political tsunami” with right-wing parties across the continent calling for dozens of in-out referendums. A study by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) revealed so-called extreme “insurgent parties” are calling for a total of 34 public votes - with matters ranging from their countries’ membership of the EU to refugee policy.

US Healthcare records offered for sale online
Three US healthcare organisations are reportedly being held to ransom by a hacker who stole data on hundreds of thousands of patients. The hacker has also put the 650,000 records up for sale on dark web markets where stolen data is traded. Prices for the different databases range from $100,000 (£75,000) to $411,000.

Istanbul Ataturk airport attack: Deaths rise to 41, with 239 hurt
The death toll in a gun and suicide bomb attack on Istanbul's Ataturk airport has risen to 41, 13 of them foreign nationals, with 239 injured, the Turkish city's governor says. Three attackers arrived in a taxi and began firing at the terminal entrance late on Tuesday. They blew themselves up after police fired back. PM Binali Yildirim said early signs pointed to so-called Islamic State.

Gay marriage in spotlight in Australia election
Same-sex marriage has become a front-page issue in the final days of Australia's election campaign. The ruling conservative Liberal Party has promised to hold a plebiscite on the issue if it returns to power at this weekend's election. But questions remain over whether the party would abide by a result in favour of same-sex marriage.

S Korea, US and Japan in first ever joint missile drill
South Korea, the US and Japan have conducted their first joint missile-tracking drill, in the waters off the US state of Hawaii. The move follows North Korea's repeated tests in recent months of mid-range ballistic missiles. Most tests have ended in failure, but the apparent success of the sixth last week alarmed the region.

Iranian oil is about to hit a wall
A major part of the fall in oil prices last year was driven by concerns over the rising production levels of Iran. With nuclear sanctions in place, Iran had been forced to significantly curtail production due to lack of buyers. Once those sanctions disappeared due to the Iranian nuclear deal, the country was prepared to begin exporting crude en masse once more. That outcome caused investors to panic and led oil prices to fall considerably.

Greenspan Warns “Early Days Of A Crisis,” Inflation Coming and Urges Return To Gold Standard
Alan Greenspan, the former Chairman of the Federal Reserve has warned that Brexit was a “terrible outcome in all respects” and that we are in the “early days of a crisis.” U.K. policy makers miscalculated and made a “terrible mistake” in holding a referendum on whether to quit the European Union, Greenspan said.

At least 36 people have been killed in an attack on the main airport in Istanbul, a senior Turkish official has told the Associated Press. Initial indications suggest Islamic State was behind the attack, the official said.

Gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals reported more health problems than straight men and women, in a large U.S. survey. For the first time since its launch in 1957, the National Health Interview Survey in 2013 and 2014 included a question about sexual orientation.

Florida confirms birth defects after mom gets Zika abroad
Florida confirmed its first Zika-related case of microcephaly, in a child whose mother contracted the virus in Haiti, officials said Tuesday. In a statement, Republican Gov. Rick Scott called the diagnosis "heartbreaking" and asked federal health experts to talk with Florida medical professionals about what precautions pregnant women should take.

House Benghazi Report Details Military, Intelligence Failures

Lebanon army detains 100 Syrians after Qaa bombings
Lebanon's army has detained more than 100 Syrians for entering the country illegally following a series of suicide bombings in a border village. The raids took place at informal refugee camps in the Baalbek region. On Monday, at least eight bombers blew themselves up in the predominantly Christian village of Qaa, killing five people and injuring almost 30 others.

Pakistan's transgender community cautiously welcomes marriage fatwa
A religious decree declaring transgender marriage to be legal has been cautiously welcomed in Pakistan, but activists say attitudes still need to change. The decree, or fatwa, was passed on Sunday by a group of clerics. It said that according to Islam transgender people with "visible signs" of being male or female may marry someone of the opposite sex.

Police temporarily close Temple Mount to non-Muslim visitors
Following three consecutive days of rioting by Arab youths on the Temple Mount, police announced on Tuesday morning that the contested holy site would be closed to non-Muslim visitors through Thursday. In a statement, police said the decision was made after security assessments indicated it was not safe for Jewish visitors, who have been the target of attacks there during the final 10 days of Ramadan.

In Gaza, UN chief calls on Israel to lift 'suffocating' blockade of Strip
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Israel on Tuesday to lift the "suffocating" blockade on the Gaza Strip, a day after Israel said the naval blockade of Gaza would continue under a deal with Turkey to normalize ties. ...Ban told reporters: "The closure of Gaza suffocates its people, stifles its economy and impede reconstruction effort, it is a collective punishment for which there must accountability."

European 'superstate' suggested as Brexit solution
the E.U. blew into a tumult on Monday when it was revealed that a new “superstate” is being considered... “Under the radical proposals E.U. countries will lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank, with all those powers being transferred to Brussels.”

India will spend $750 million on artillery guns to secure its border with China
After a remarkably long wait of 30 years, the Indian Army will finally get its hands on new artillery guns. On Saturday (June 25), India’s defence ministry approved a proposal to purchase 145 ultra light howitzer guns from the British weapons manufacturer BAE Systems. The deal is worth about Rs5,000 crore ($750 million).
