Earthquake measuring 6.5 magnitude strikes deep off Tonga
A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude struck 572 kilometres (355 miles) beneath the earth's surface on Friday about 340 kilometers west of the South Pacific island nation of Tonga, the United States Geological Survey reported.

Israel forming civil defense units in Arab and Jewish villages
Israel is forming civil defense units throughout northern Israel to assist in any future conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Col. Eren Makov, the Northern Regional Commander of the Homefront Command recently stated. "There is a big change in the Arab population in Israel in that they are much more willing to cooperate with us," Makov said in an interview. "We give them training in what to do and they see it as a contribution."

NASA spots monster hole open up on our star
NASA has revealed that a massive hole, measuring more than ten per cent of the Sun's surface area, has opened up on our star. The remarkable footage was captured by the US space agency's Solar Dynamics Observatory between May 17 and 19. The video shows a giant dark area on the star's upper half, known as a coronal hole.

A 70-year-old Christian woman has been stripped naked, beaten and paraded through the streets by a mob of around 300 Muslim men in a village in southern Egypt. The mob also burned down seven homes belonging to Christian families...after rumours circulated in the village that a Christian man was having a relationship with a Muslim woman.

Syria war: Turkey anger over US commando photos
Turkey has hit out at the US over images said to show US special forces in Syria wearing insignia of Kurdish militia, during joint operations against so-called Islamic State (IS). Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called the US "two-faced" and said the practice was "unacceptable". The images appear to show a US special forces soldier wearing the patch of the YPJ - a Kurdish militia group.

Migrant crisis: UK set to send Royal Navy warship to Libya
The UK is set to send a Royal Navy warship to the Mediterranean to help tackle arms smuggling in Libya, Prime Minister David Cameron has announced. He told the G7 summit in Japan the UK was ready to take an "active leadership role" in helping Libya deal with people trafficking and the migration crisis. The UK already has a survey vessel, HMS Enterprise, operating in the area.
