China says tech firms have nothing to fear from anti-terror law
Technology companies have nothing to fear from China's new anti-terrorism law which aims to prevent and probe terror activities and does not affect their copyright, China's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday... The draft anti-terrorism law has caused concern in Western capitals as it could require technology firms to install "back doors" in products or to hand over sensitive information such as encryption keys to the government.

Syria conflict: Government 'ready to attend peace talks'
Syria's government is prepared to take part in UN-brokered peace talks aimed at finding a political solution to the four-year conflict in the country. Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said it would be "ready as soon as we receive a list of the opposition delegation". The warring parties and the world powers backing them have to agree on which rebel groups will be designated as "terrorists" and not represented.

German migrant crisis: Arson suspected in refugee home fires
Twelve people were hurt, including seven teenagers, when fires broke out at two neighbouring refugee hostels in the south German region of Bavaria. A man was arrested after the fires at Wasserstein and police suspect arson. No-one in the hostels was badly hurt. More than a million refugees and migrants have arrived in Germany this year, and for most their first stop has been in Bavaria.

Beijing security: 'Possible threat to Westerners' governments warn
The UK and US governments have issued a warning about possible threats against Westerners in the Chinese capital Beijing on or around Christmas Day. British and US officials say they have received information of possible threats in Sanlitun, which is a busy bar and shopping district. The Australian and French governments have also urged their citizens to remain vigilant.

Iran urges China to join fight against ISIS
China should play a more active role in fighting Islamic State, a senior figure in a body that advises Iran's Supreme Leader said on Thursday, according to the country's Fars news agency. China relies on the Middle East for oil supplies, but tends to leave diplomacy there to other permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, Britain, France and Russia.

Pope REFUSES to wear bullet proof vest for Christmas speech amid ISIS threat
