Migrant crisis: Slovenia braces after Hungary border closure

Hungary closed its frontier, reinforced with a razor-wire fence, at midnight local on Friday. Many of the migrants aim to continue north to Austria and Germany.

Philippines on alert as Typhoon Koppu nears
The Philippines is preparing for a typhoon that is forecast to dump heavy rain and cause severe flooding when it arrives at the weekend. On Friday President Benigno Aquino warned people living in the path of Typhoon Koppu to be ready to evacuate. In a TV address, he said the storm could bring up to 12 hours' torrential rain and cause severe flooding.

UN Security Council to meet on Israeli-Palestinian violence
The United Nations Security Council will hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss the recent spate of violence between Israel and the Palestinians in which 39 people have been killed over the past two weeks. The meeting, which diplomats said was called at the request of council member Jordan, will include a briefing from the UN secretariat on the situation on the ground and will take place at 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT), the United Nations said on Thursday.

New Anti-Terror Guidelines for Police: Shoot Them Now, Talk Later

DARPA developing vehicles that can literally disappear
