US plans to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees next year
President Barack Obama has called for the US to prepare to accept "at least" 10,000 Syrian refugees next year, according to a White House spokesman. That number is significantly higher than the 1,500 Syrians that have been permitted to re-settle in the US since the start of the conflict. The 10,000 figure is still much lower than the 340,000 asylum seekers who arrived in Europe this year.

US official: 'IS making and using chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria'
There is a growing belief within the US government that the Islamic State militant group is making and using crude chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria, a US official has told the BBC. Strong earthquake rocks Trinidad
A 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Trinidad and Tobago early this morning, but there have been no reports of injuries or damage. The tremor occurred around 3:49 a.m. to the northwest of Trinidad, at a depth of 136 km, and was felt widely across the country.
