Here is an excellent example of the various harvests that are gathered

12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Why is John scribing the words that blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth? Because, those of the First Fruit Harvest have already been led free; they have been harvested. Those that follow will be the next harvest. This is not speaking of individuals but a group harvest like a field of grain that is reaped.

14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

What this harvest is would be the great Wheat Harvest that leaves the tares behind. These, the Elect, the ecclesia made up of Gentile and Israel have been removed from their fields and put into the place of safety until the Resurrection of the Dead and then the Living that happens at the time that they join the Lord in the Air. I Thess. 4:16-17

Now, notice the next harvest, which is not a good omen at all because they are removed from the earth and put into God's winepress. These Grapes have ripened to the point that there is no more time left for them. They are being gathered into the Winepress. The blood being seen is the blood that results from this judgment of God's Wrath. This harvest is represented by what is known as The Grim Reaper with his sickle.

17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.KJV

And so we now have the ending when the distance of the Sheepfold at Petra unto the Valley of Jezreel, which is approx. 200 miles, the blood will flow so high, even unto the horses bridles, which means it is a great massacre. These are not Righteous people that are shedding their blood but these are those of the Unrighteous who dare to make war against The King of Kings and His people. These are those that gathered their forces against the very Creator Himself. Their leaders knows he can't win but still, he intends to take as many with him to where he will be put as he can.
