Forty is a number that has been universally recognized as an important number, both on account of the frequency of it's occurrence and the uniformity of it's association with a period of probation, trial and chastisement (not judgement like the number 9 which stand in connection with the punishment of enemies but the chastisement of sons, and of a Covenant people}.

Some famous events concerning the number FORTY:

1. Forty days Moses was in the mount... Exodus 24:18

2. Forty days Moses was in the mount 'after' the sin of the Golden Calf... Deut. 9:18, 25

3. Forty days of the spies, issuing in the penal sentence of 40 years...Numbers 13:26

4. Forty days of Jonah and Nineveh...Jonah 3:4

5. Forty days Ezekiel lay on his right side to symbolize the 40 years of Judah's transgression.

6. Forty days, Messiah Yeshua was tempted of the Devil...Matt. 4:2

7. Forty days, Messiah Yeshua was seen of His disciples, speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God...Acts 1:2

Forty becomes a number closely connected with JUDAH as 390 (Ezek. 4:5) is the number of separated ISRAEL.

Embalming in early Bible times took 40 days (Gen 50:3).

Although it rained 40 days and 40 nights, Noah and his family were on the Ark for just over a year (Gen 7:11, 8:13-14). And Noah's Ark contained only 1 window (Gen 6:16).

The Bible says to "wait on God" over 40 times.
