Have you ever known a "willful" child whom is told over and over again NOT to go down a certain trail because at the end of it, there is something that is not good for him? The Words of his Father were said out of love and concern. He wanted to save his child from the pitfall that he had nearly himself suffered because he didn't listen to his own father. He gave his child all the reasons, all of the facts, even bringing out a map that showed what was at the end of that road YET the child liked the idea of doing things his way because he didn't see that trail as dangerous. It looked beautiful and inviting.

In fact, his friends had told him different stories that there was no need to be concerned. In other words, he had his thinking altered so that good sense made no sense at all.

So, the day came that he ignored his father's warnings and took that first step down that trail. He traveled quite a ways when he came across the first sign that said, "It's not what you think!". In the boys mind, he read, 'It's what you always wanted."

He came across a big sign all lit up in RED and GREEN that said, "Bi-Way" or was it "My Way?". He had walked that twisted trail so long that each warning sign became moot.

Night time came and the dark shadows began to envelope him in fear. He sat down and began to go over in his mind what the different signs were telling him. Did they say "Left"? Or was it "Right". How come, I didn't pay close attention? Should he keep going or perhaps he could turn around and go back?

He recalled his father telling him that the path was beautiful; very alluring while there was light but when darkness came, he would not see the pit. It wasn't just a mere hole in the path but a pit full of vipers. Some would curl themselves around him and squeeze his life's blood out of him should he slip and fall in. There were others that struck out with their fangs. But one thing for sure, they were there, just waiting for their next victim who had not heeded the Words of Warning.

The issue isn't that he couldn't hear his father; he didn't want to hear. He could also read the signs but could not comprehend the words. You see, he chose to believe as he wanted. His ability to understand had become blurred by those friends around him. By, the way, "where are those friends? It's been some time since he had seen some of them."

Many people can read but very few can comprehend what they read or they would heed. There are some people who can't read yet their instincts for truth makes them pay close attention to things around them. They pay attention because they know if they are to survive, they better learn what is right and what is wrong.

We have a Father who has given us His Word to show us the past, present and ultimate future. He has placed good stewards of His Word, who have poured over His Words, to help His Sheep stay within the boundaries of safety. Some of His warnings are:

1. The Bible is the inerrant Word of God....read it and comprehend
2. Seek Him while you can; He is eager to forgive a contrite heart.
3. The Dead in Christ Rise First and then the Living.
4. Have nothing to do with the Pagan Holidays....NOTHING.
5. There is no turning back once you have spoken against His Holy Spirit.

The Boy did remember His Father's Words, "Pride Commeth before a Fall". He did not want to fall into the pit of Vipers waiting along that path. With a pleading voice he cried out for His Father, "Help Me!"

The Father knew what His boy was going to do. All during that walk that His son had traveled, He was following behind, watching him and waiting for that moment when His boy would come to understand what he had been trying to tell him.

That is the way it is for so many "Willful Believers" whom walk according to the words of their "Tale Bearers". They remain convinced they understand but not until they really sit down and cry out for The Heavenly Father to show them the right way, will they get enough light to avoid the pitfalls.

Comprehension is the Key....it is not the reading but the Understanding.
