Hezbollah shows off its tunnels, claims it is prepared for war with Israel
A rare glimpse into Hezbollah's underground tunnels was provided on Friday by Lebanese publication As-Safir, which is associated with the militant organization. The report praised Hezbollah's activities and painted it as a strong army ready for battle. While it is difficult to verify the claims in the article, it contained a rare discussion of the tunnels by Hezbollah members.

Chinese Military Using Jamming Against U.S. Drones
China tried to electronically jam U.S. drone flights over the South China Sea in a bid to thwart spying on disputed island military construction, U.S. officials said. Global Hawk long-range surveillance drones were targeted by the jamming in at least one incident near the disputed Spratly Islands, where China is building military facilities on Fiery Cross Reef.

US Senate blocks bill to end NSA phone data collection

Cholera has infected about 3,000 people in Tanzania, the UN has said, where many Burundians have fled seeking refuge from their country's unrest. Time is running out for struggling oil companies

ISIS executes 17 people in Syria’s Palmyra: Monitor
Fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group executed at least 17 people, including civilians, after the militants seized Syria’s ancient city of Palmyra on Thursday, a monitor said. “ISIS executed 17 people, including civilians and loyalist fighters. At least four of them were beheaded,” Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, told AFP.

Islamic State seizes more than half of Syria
The Islamic State has seized more than half of Syria after taking full control of the town of Palmyra and its ancient ruins, activists said Thursday. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the extremists had seized more than 36,000 square miles of the country and had also taken control of "the vast majority" of its gas and oil fields. USA TODAY could not independently confirm the information.

Is China Under The Skyscraper Curse?
The fact is that Shanghai Tower is opening during the darkest period of China's economy in recent years. This make me wonder if the skyscraper index which showed that the world's tallest buildings have risen on the eve of economic downturns (see graph above) could have some predictive value than mere coincidence.
