Netanyahu rebuffed Kerry request to visit in recent days
Shortly after the March 17 elections, Kerry requested to convene with Netanyahu on regional affairs, including peace negotiations with the Palestinians that have been stalled since 2014. But Netanyahu indicated to Kerry that the timing was not right and he preferred to delay the meeting until after he had hammered out a new coalition, a task he has yet to complete.

Magnitude 5.8 quake hit South Island
A "severe" 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the South Island this afternoon, leaving many people shaken but causing no reported damage. The quake was initially reported at magnitude 6.0, but GeoNet later downgraded it to magnitude 5.8.It hit mid-afternoon 30 kilometres north-west of Wanaka, the epicenter five kilometres below the Treble Cone ski field.

Syria conflict: Suicide blast rocks central Damascus
A suicide bomber has blown himself up in the centre of the Syrian capital, Damascus, officials and activists say. State media said troops had foiled an attack by a "terrorist group" in the Rukn al-Din district, where several major security facilities are located.

Australia deadly super storm kills destroys homes
More than 100 houses have been left uninhabitable in Queensland following a super storm that killed six people. A number of places in the state recorded their wettest May days since 1996, according to Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. The state now faces a massive clean-up and insurers say they have received thousands of claims.

China's Xi Jinping and Taiwan's Eric Chu in high-level talks
The leader of Taiwan's ruling party and Chinese President Xi Jinping have held the highest level talks between the two sides in six years. Nationalist Chairman, Eric Chu, was in Beijing for the meeting, a sign of warming relations between the sides. But any rapprochement is controversial in Taiwan, which has seen protests over the prospect of closer ties.

DOBSON: 'Fall of Western civilization' at hand
Dr. James Dobson, who founded the highly influential groups Focus on the Family and Family Research Council and now runs Family Talk Radio, is warning that if the U.S. Supreme Court redefines marriage as analysts predict, the ruling will presage the “fall of Western civilization.”

Having killed a robot by underestimating the level of radiation present in the ********* power plant, and after delaying its previous admission of a leak, Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) has quickly admitted that the nuclear plant has sprung another leak. As EFE reports, a small quantity of radioactive water has leaked from a storage tank with 70 microsieverts per hour of beta-ray-emitting radioactivity detected on the surface where the water had leaked, far exceeding the recommended maximum exposure of 0.11 microsieverts per hour. But apart from that it's "contained."

Philippine military chief confirms wanted militant killed
The Philippine military chief confirmed Monday that wanted Filipino bomb-maker Basit Usman, who has links to the Indonesian-based Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network and is a suspect in deadly bomb attacks in the south, has been killed. Washington has offered a $1 million award for Usman's capture and prosecution.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit the near the New Zealand South Island resort towns of Queenstown and Wanaka, the U.S. Geological Survey said on Monday.

City: 2 gunmen killed outside Muhammad cartoon contest
Two armed men who opened fire on a security officer outside of a provocative contest for cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad have been killed, authorities in the Dallas suburb of Garland said Sunday night. The City of Garland said in a statement posted on its Facebook page Sunday night that two men drove up to the Curtis Culwell Center and began shooting at a security officer.

3.2-Magnitude Earthquake Rattles North Texas
North Texas was rattled once again with an earthquake early Sunday morning. The USGS confirmed that the 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck about two miles north-northeast of Irving at about 10:11 a.m.

Another Ukrainian soldier was killed this weekend bringing the death toll in the past week to eight, with another 40 wounded in attacks in eastern Ukraine by pro-Russia separatists, the most intense clashes since the ceasefire agreed in Minsk.

Yemen: Saudi Arabia used cluster bombs, rights groups says
The Saudi-led coalition carrying out air strikes in Yemen has used US-supplied cluster bombs banned by much of the world, a rights group has said. Human Rights Watch (HRW) said it had evidence that the bombs were used at least twice against Houthi rebels. There were no reports of casualties.

A Nepali police team has pulled out the bodies of about 50 people, including some foreign trekkers, from an avalanche-hit area, officials said on Sunday, as the death toll from last month's devastating earthquake climbed to over 7,000.

Deadly attacks hit Iraqi capital, north-west as campaign to defeat IS continues
At least 13 people have been killed by a car bomb in Baghdad in one of the deadliest attacks in the Iraqi capital this year. "At least 13 people were killed and 39 wounded in a car bomb facing a popular restaurant in the Karrada area," a police colonel told news agency AFP.
