With debate gearing up over the coming expiration of the Patriot Act...the Obama administration on Saturday unveiled a 6-year-old report examining the once-secret program to collect information on Americans' calls and emails. ...The Patriot Act expires on June 1, and Senate Republicans have introduced a bill that would allow continued collection of call records of nearly every American.

FBI probes possible ISIS-inspired threat
The FBI is investigating a possible ISIS-inspired terrorist threat in the United States, law enforcement officials said Saturday. The investigation originated from intercepted chatter and other intelligence information that led officials to believe a possible plot could be in the works, the officials said. ...It's not clear whether the threat is real or aspirational.

An international panel of scientists will today launch a major inquiry to discover whether official world temperature records have exaggerated the extent of global warming. Baltimore Freddie Gray death protest turns violent
More than 1,000 protesters have marched in Baltimore over the death of a black man in police custody a week ago. But after hours of peaceful demonstrations, some protesters smashed police windows and shop fronts. At least 12 people were arrested. Freddie Gray was arrested by police on 12 April and then suffered spinal injuries leading to death a week later.

IDF search and rescue team, field hospital to depart for Nepal tonight
An IDF Home Front Command search and rescue team and a fully equipped field hospital will take off for Nepal on Sunday night, army officials have said. Col. Yoram Laredo, commander of the Home Front Command's conscripted battalions, is heading the Israeli assistance team, and said some 260 personnel will board an air force cargo plane and an El Al Boeing 737 for a 12 hour journey to the earthquake-stricken country.

Tremors, aftershocks, strike India and Nepal sparking fears of further deterioration
A strong earthquake aftershock struck India and Nepal on Sunday, shaking buildings in New Delhi and triggering an avalanche in the Himalayas. The United States Geological Survey said the tremor was 6.7 in magnitude, less than the 7.9 quake that struck the region on Saturday killing at least 1,900 people.

Earthquake in Nepal Kills Hundreds and Levels Buildings
An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.9 shook Nepal on Saturday near its capital, Katmandu. By midafternoon the United States Geological Survey had counted 12 aftershocks, one of which measured at a magnitude of 6.6.

Everest hit by avalanche after Nepal earthquake
A powerful earthquake in Nepal on Saturday triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, climbers said, raising fears for those on the world's highest peak a year after another avalanche caused the deadliest incident on the mountain. An official from the Nepal tourist board confirmed that part of Everest base camp had been buried, and that eight people had been killed.

Syria conflict: Islamists 'capture Jisr al-Shughur'
Islamist rebels in Syria have taken over much of the key north-western town of Jisr al-Shughur, activists say. A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the north coast of British Columbia Friday morning.

3 Earthquakes Rattle Northern Idaho
Three Earthquakes were recorded near Sandpoint, ID Thursday night and early Friday Morning. The most recent was a magnitude 3.3 recorded at 1:28 AM Friday morning 8 miles East Southeast of Sandpoint, ID.

Researchers Discover New Tick-Borne Disease
Ticks can carry more than Lyme disease, as a newly published study reminds us. Researchers from China and the University of Maryland School of Medicine uncovered a previously unknown tick-borne illness after last spring examining 477 Chinese patients who had suffered tick bites.

Iranian Warships Halt near Yemen Port
Iranian warships neared the southern Yemen port of Aden Thursday despite the presence of several U.S. warships in the area as well. It is believed the Iranian vessels are carrying weapons to re-arm the Shiite Houthi rebels who have seized control over the port city and the nation’s capital, Sa’ana. The Iranian vessels since have stopped approaching Aden, but reports that they have turned back have not been confirmed,.

Russia Backs Down and Says Iran Won’t Get S300 System in ‘Near Future’
Russia has backed down on delivering the advanced S-300 advanced anti-missile system to Iran in the “near future,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Russian media on Thursday Moscow announced two weeks ago that it was lifting the bean of selling Iran the S-300, causing “concern” in Washington and fierce anger in Jerusalem. Netanyahu told Russian president Vladimir Putin last week that Israel would bomb the S-300 systems if Iran were to ship them to Syria or the Hezbollah in Lebanon.
