World Bank sees protracted recession in Russia
Russia faces a protracted recession as the impact of Western sanctions lingers and oil prices stay low, the World Bank said in a report published on Wednesday. FORBUSH DECREASE
For the second time in two weeks, a Forbush Decrease is underway. In other words, the number of cosmic rays around Earth is down. Forbush decreases happen when CMEs sweep past Earth and push aside cosmic rays that normally surround our planet. At least nine people have been killed in gales that have battered Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the UK. Seven people were killed in Germany, including two men whose car was hit by a tree. German media reports that there have been dozens of injuries from flying branches.

China building 'great wall of sand' in South China Sea
China's land reclamation is creating a "great wall of sand" in the South China Sea, a top US official says, leading to "serious questions" on its intentions. US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Harry Harris made the comments in a speech in Australia on Tuesday night. He said by pumping sand on to coral reefs and adding concrete, China had created "over 4sq/km (1.5 sq miles) of artificial landmass".

Iran, Russia express optimism as nuclear talks extended
Six world powers and Iran met again on Wednesday in a bid to reach a preliminary accord on reining in Tehran's nuclear programme, after failing to agree crucial details such as the lifting of UN sanctions by a midnight deadline. ...But as top negotiators from the powers met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Russia and Iran expressed optimism that an initial agreement was within reach.

Taiwan, Norway seek to join China-backed AIIB, Japan still cautious
Japan remains cautious about signing up to the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), indicating that Tokyo will miss the March 31 deadline for application, but both Taiwan and Norway said they would seek to join the institution.
