World record? 100 inches of snow may have clobbered Italy in 18 hours
The Italian weather Website MeteoWeb reports that Capracotta, Italy saw 100.8 inches of snow in just 18 hours on Thursday, March 5 — a total that, if verified, would set a new world record for snowfall in a 24-hour period. However, the reports from Capracotta as this time are not official.

Netanyahu says sees 'real danger' of losing re-election bid
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday he saw "a real danger" he might lose next week's closely contested election and asserted that there was a worldwide effort to ensure such an outcome. Islamic State conflict: Iraqi forces 'push into Tikrit'
Iraqi government forces are advancing into Tikrit on several fronts, forcing Islamic State militants to fall back to the centre of the city, officials say. Troops have reportedly taken the Industrial Zone and Celebrations Square near the city centre, after seizing the Qadisiya area further north. They also now hold the Teaching Hospital and New Ouja in the south, and al-Diyum and al-Hayakil in the west.

Ferguson police shot during protest
Two police officers have been shot in Ferguson, a Missouri town hit by riots over the killing of an unarmed black teenager last year. One officer was shot in the face and one in the shoulder, St Louis County police chief Jon Belmar said. Both suffered "very serious gunshot injuries" but were conscious, he said.
