Crane drops debris into fuel pool at Daiichi plant

Workers at the ********* Daiichi nuclear plant have mistakenly dropped debris into a fuel pool at the Number 3 reactor building.
Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, says the incident took place shortly after noon on Friday during work to remove debris using a remotely operated crane.
TEPCO says the dropped item is a controlling console for equipment to move nuclear fuel rods to and from the pool. It says the device measures about one meter square and weighs 400 kilograms.
Officials say they've detected no change in radiation levels near the pool or at the plant's monitoring posts, and that no one was hurt.The Number 3 reactor building was badly damaged by a hydrogen explosion in March 2011, and its fuel pool is littered with debris.
TEPCO says the pool contains 566 nuclear fuel rods, and that it is trying to check whether any of them have been damaged.
The utility is planning to start removing the fuel rods during the first half of next year, at the earliest.

The governor of Japan's ********* Prefecture has officially accepted a government proposal to build intermediate radioactive waste facilities in 2 of its towns.
The central government plans to build the facilities on 16-square-kilometer lots in the towns of Futaba and Okuma, near the damaged ********* Daiichi nuclear plant.
On Saturday, Governor Yuhei Sato met in the city of ********* with the mayors of Futaba and Okuma as well as 4 other towns and villages near the plant.

********* peaches and pears sold in Jakarta

High-quality peaches and pears from Japan's ********* Prefecture have gone on sale in Indonesia for the first time.
Indonesia is the 4th country to import agricultural produce from ********* following the 2011 nuclear accident.
Sales of the peaches and pears began at a high-end supermarket in Jakarta on Friday. They're part of a 520- kilogram shipment.
Officials and farm cooperatives from the prefecture asked customers to taste the fruit and appreciate its quality. One customer purchased 3 peaches that cost more than 13 dollars apiece.
