Google privacy law ‘means total rethink of basic freedoms’
Hundreds of millions of people across Europe will be forced to change completely the way they use the internet, according to one of Google’s key advisers. The era of freely available information is now over in Europe, warns Professor Luciano Floridi, who has been appointed by the £225bn search engine firm to find out how it should comply with a landmark ruling that allows people to ask for personal information to be taken down.

Volcano ash clouds force Australia flight cancellations
Huge ash clouds thrown up by an Indonesian volcano have forced airlines to cancel all flights to and from the northern Australian city of Darwin. Mount Sangeang Api began erupting on Friday and plumes of ash have been sweeping south towards Australia. Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia have all cancelled flights. Services between Australia and the province of Bali have also been hit.

Meriam Ibrahim: Sudan death sentence condemned by UK leaders
UK political leaders have united to urge Sudan to lift the "barbaric" death sentence handed down to a Christian woman accused of abandoning Islam. A court ruled that Meriam Ibrahim, who was raised by her Christian mother and married a Christian, was Muslim in line with her father - which she rejects.

US confirms American carried out Syria suicide bombing
An American citizen fighting for a hardline Islamist group carried out a deadly suicide bombing in Syria, US officials confirmed Friday, in the first such case in the war. The State Department did not identify the man, said to have been behind a truck bombing on Sunday in the northern province of Idlib, but acknowledged concerns about the flow of foreign fighters into Syria.

India gang rapes: Police says all suspects arrested
Police in India say they have now arrested all suspects in connection with the gang rape and murder of two teenage cousins. Three suspected attackers have been detained, along with two policemen accused of dereliction of duty and criminal conspiracy. M-5.2 earthquake off Surigao coast
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 5.2 earthquake approximately 51km east-northeast off the shore of Cortes, Surigao del Sur, early Saturday morning, May 31. The report said that the earthquake hit around 1:41am at a depth of 49km.

3.2-magnitude earthquake rattles the surrounding Fairbanks area
A small earthquake gave residents in Fairbanks something to talk about over their morning coffee Thursday morning. The 3.2-magnitude quake occurred at 8:06 a.m. and was felt in Fairbanks, North Pole and Salcha, reports the Alaska Earthquake Information Center in Fairbanks. The quake was centered 17 miles northeast of North Pole.
