Oregon woman claims 'carloads' of radical Muslims turned her Oregon ranch into a training camp for terror

Testifying in Manhattan federal court Tuesday, Eva Hatley swore she never meant for her Oregon ranch to become a training camp for al Qaeda.

Her plan, she claimed, was to teach local Muslims to grow and can vegetables.

But as 'carloads' of fellow Muslims she'd met through her mosque began arriving at the 160-acre ranch in 1999, she and her husband were helpless to stop their home from becoming a magnet for terrorists-in-training.

'It wasn't anything like I envisioned for the property,' she said, testifying at the trial of hate preacher Abu Hamaza al-Masri, also known as Mustafa Kamel Mustafa and Abdu Hamza.


The one-eyed, hook handed radical began bringing Muslims in from London shortly after he esconced himself on Hatley's property, The New York Post reported.


The Guardian notes al-Masri plans to testify on his own behalf, telling the judge at a pre-trial hearing earlier this month: 'I think I am innocent. I need to go through it, have a chance to defend myself.'

Hatley herself said she was raised in Idaho where she bagged her first deer at age 12.

At the age of 38 she converted to Islam. Shortly after she married Ivan Rule after an extremely brief courtship on the promise that he would convert and allow her to use the 160-acre grounds as a 'teaching farm' for fellow Muslims, Newsday reported.

'They were, you know, training for war,' she later told The Oregonian. 'I was just wanting, you know, people to be able to raise their own vegetables and preserve them and eat more healthy,'

Hatley, who has twice flunked out of the witness protection program and who prefers to be addressed by the Muslim name 'Ayat Hakimah,' said her husband, Ivan Rule, was on a trip out of town 'shepherding' as the situation on the ranch began spiraling out of control.



Conversely, al-Masri's lawyer described the camp as not unlike being in the 'Cub Scouts,' with horseback riding, tending to lambs, and telling stories around the campfire.


However one arrival, a militant man named Oussama Kassir, told a particularly terrifying campfire story, boasting of running training camps in Afghanistan and acting as a 'hit man' for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.


Neither Hatley nor Rule has been implicated in any wrongdoing.


Al-Masri also faces life in prison on charges of conspiring in a 1998 kidnapping in Yemen that ended in the deaths of four terrorists, as well as several other terror related crimes.

A Lebanese-born Swede, in 2009 he was convicted of plotting to help al-Qaeda build a weapons-training post at the ranch as well as distributing terror training manuals online to help recruit new members.

Kassir claimed at the time that al-Masri was his 'leader' and that he had been recruited by hm to the Bly Ranch to create a new training camp where the terrorist group's future foot soldiers could learn to shoot, throw knives, and use the open fields to practice calisthenics.
