I don't have a Geneva Bible to compare to my KJV Bible so I asked a friend (Pearl) who does, to give her opinion of which she thought was the best. I am a KJV person, but have seen some good arguments here on this site that makes me wonder if the Geneva might be even better. I respect Pearl's opinion as she is very much into searching the Scriptures daily and seeking the Truth.

All the reviews about the Geneva Bible posted here are in favor of it being a better version, Pearl's response gives another perspective. Just something to round out the discussion and point out another view.

Here is her message to me in response to my question:

I've spent the last couple of hours on comparing the Geneva Bible with the KJV to ascertain whether they say the same thing. And I have come to the conclusion that the Geneva Bible causes ambiguity. It also loses the continuity of word phrases....such as the words "to and fro in the earth".

This may not mean a lot...but these little phrases are the "keys" to understanding the BIG PICTURE which God is trying to show to those who are searching for the truth....and concealing from those who really don't care to understand.

There are many examples, but I'll give you one.....Isaiah 33:4

KJV..."And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of LOCUSTS shall he run upon them."

Geneva..."And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of caterpillars: and he shall go against him like the leaping of GRASSHOPPERS."

[This one word loses the reference point to Revelation chapter 9]
And one more....Daniel 12:4

KJV..."But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the TIME OF THE END: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased."

Geneva....."But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book till the END OF THE TIME: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

["the time of the end" and "end of the time" do not say the same thing]

But, the "key" is the phrase "to and fro" because reference points are lost in over half of the verses in the Geneva Bible.

And some verses in the Geneva Bible seem to completely destroy the meaning that is in the KJV. For instance, 2 Chron. 16:9

KJV..."For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth,....."

Geneva..."For the eyes of the Lord behold all the earth,........."

[KJV shows vigorous, continuous action, while the Geneva shows basic inactivity]

I do not judge other people in their opinion of which Bible to use. But I have always gone back to the KJV because it's "coded messages" through "keys" in scripture have opened up truths which I can't find in other versions.....but to each his own.

That is just one person's opinion, but the examples she gives are valid and ones to consider. The conclusion I come to is having both would be best, in order to compare the two, to get the most complete understanding.
