RE: Bruce Warner, the "Scripturalist" and what the truth really is


Actually, the Bible, as it speaks to us is correct...but people misinterpret Daniel 9:27 INCORRECTLY and put what happened in 70 AD into the FUTURE where it does not belong. And this is the result of WRONG INTERPRETATION of the one word "he".

Everything Jesus predicted to happen (to happen to the Jews and the temple) was accomplished. EVERYTHING He spoke of in Matthew 24:15-22 already has happened when Titus and the Romans ("PEOPLE of the prince that shall come"...destroyed the city and the temple....Daniel 9:26)) The Gospel then went to the Gentiles (Nations) after that...see Acts 28:28:

"Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and they will hear it."

There's much more, but I'm only referring to the misinterpretation of Daniel 9:27 here because this puts the "abomination of desolation" back in Judea, in 70 AD (where it belongs) and not in the future (where it does not belong.)

And the Bible says that AFTER THAT, "false Christs and false prophets will arise and deceive many". IF that time were the END OF THIS AGE, there couldn't possibly be more of those deceiving doctrines coming out because God would have destroyed them all...see Mt.24:24...and II Thess.2:8.

But people don't read the Bible to check all this stuff out! They only believe what they learn in "church". As a "Scripturalist" you should have seen this.

Because so many have inquired about my views on the latter part of Daniel 9:27, I will briefly state my position. Here is my conclusion.

First of all, the entire text of Daniel 9:24-27 is often translated by modern Bible versions to fit the bias of the translators and to support false “Futurist” positions. To avoid these errors and bias, this article will stick to the King James Version. Here’s the entire text:

"(24) Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

(25) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

(26) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

(27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

In previous articles and TV programs we have built our case that “he” in Daniel 9:27a refers to none other than Jesus Christ, “the Messiah” referred to in verses 25 and 26. Our Messiah “confirmed the covenant,” which means the new covenant, and after 3 ½ years of holy ministry He Himself caused “the sacrifice ... to cease” by His death on the cross. This position not only fits the context of Daniel 9:24-27, the facts of history, and New Testament evidence (see Romans 15:8 and Matthew 26:28), but is the position of the majority of well-respected older Bible commentaries that have not been affected by modern Futurism (see the commentaries of Matthew Henry, Jamieson, Fausett and Brown, Adam Clarke, etc).
