China "fully prepared" for currency war: banker
A top Chinese banker said Beijing is "fully prepared" for a currency war as he urged the world to abide by a consensus reached by the G20 to avert confrontation, state media reported on Saturday. Yi Gang, deputy governor of China's central bank, issued the call after G20 finance ministers last month moved to calm fears of a looming war on the currency markets at a meeting in Moscow.

Army sent to north Bangladesh as clashes continue

The new report "again makes clear there is no reason for this critical pipeline to be blocked one more day," said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. Earthquake Causes Light Shaking in Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic was shaken a 4.3-magnitude earthquake early Saturday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake’s epicentre was about 13 kilometres south of Rio San Juan, and about 113 kilometres north of Santo Domingo. It occurred at about 3:17 AM local time.

An earthquake of moderate intensity rocked parts of northeast India and Bangladesh on Saturday, an official said in Agartala. According to district administrations in Tripura and southern Assam, no loss of life or damage to property was reported.

Stray mortar shells fired from Syria land in Golan Heights
Four stray mortar shells fired from Syria landed in the Israeli Golan Heights on Saturday, the IDF confirmed. The rockets fell in an open field near the border and no injuries or damage were reported, the IDF Spokesman's Office stated. Security forces were sent to the scene, and Israel informed the UN of the incident.

Chad President Deby: Al-Qaeda's Abou Zeid killed in Mali
A senior al-Qaeda militant has been killed in northern Mali, Chadian President Idriss Deby has said. He said the country's forces killed Abdelhamid Abou Zeid during clashes in the remote region. He is said to be second-in-command of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, which is fighting foreign forces in Mali. The Algerian national is accused of killing two Western hostages - Briton Edwin Dyer in 2009 and Frenchman Michel Germaneau the following year.
