An American Christian pastor faces a possible death sentence in Iran after prosecutors accused him of harming national security on charges he and his supporters claim amount to religious persecution. Saeed Abedini, 32, who is Iranian born, is expected to go on trial next week before a revolutionary tribunal in Tehran in a hearing presided over by a judge blacklisted by the European Union for handing down harsh verdicts.
TSA to phase out Rapiscan 'naked scanners'
The US aviation security agency will stop screening travellers with scanners that show travellers' naked images, amid widespread privacy complaints. Scanner maker Rapiscan had been ordered to make its software function without screeners having to view naked images. But Rapiscan was to be unable to meet a June deadline to make the updates, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said.

Nations with hostages being held by militants at an Algerian gas plant have expressed concern at the ongoing siege. Leprosy bacteria use 'biological alchemy'
Infectious bacteria have for the first time been caught performing "biological alchemy" to transform parts of a host body into those more suited to their purposes, by a team in Edinburgh. The study, in the journal Cell, showed leprosy-causing bacteria turning nerves into stem cells and muscle. The authors said the "clever and sophisticated" technique could further therapies and stem-cell research.
UK snow: Schools and transport hit by disruption
