The apostle is teaching you to be prepared because 
you are going to have to withstand in the "evil day"; and all these people prophesying you will "disappear" and be "taken away to escape the tribulation" are not sent by the Lord: but, what? Will you be afraid in that day? Do you fear the storm and wind and waves? What? Do you not know the Lord?
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Jer 1:8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
Jer 42:11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
These people teaching these things about "vanishing away" must repent of this mischief, else be consumed by the sword of the King of Babel, who is coming to lay seige. Now the Lord has pronounced evil upon them, but if they should repent, and turn again to Him, He may repent of the evil, and restore them, and cause them to be establsihed.
