3 Days of Darkness


Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived."


The Three Days of Darkness is a tradition which recalls the plague of Moses against Egypt. Just as God punished the idolatrous Egyptians during the days of Moses with Ten Plagues - including the "three days of darkness," so also, at the end of time God will punish the entire world with "three days of darkness." The theory holds that the entire earth will be enveloped by perfect darkness lasting the span of three days and three nights.

I believe these "3 days of darkness" are the last 3 years of the final 7 years before Christ returns. They represent the spiritual darkness that will cover the whole earth for 3 years. But the believers will be with Jesus, the "Light of the World". When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.


“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” Matthew 24:15-22

2 Maccabees 10:1-8
Maccabaeus and his companions, under the Lord's guidance, restored the Temple and the city, and pulled down the altars erected by the foreigners in the market place, as well as the sacred enclosures. They purified the sanctuary and built another altar; then striking fire from flints and using this fire, they offered the first sacrifice for two years, burning incense, lighting the lamps and setting out the loaves. When they had done this they threw themselves flat on the ground, and implored the Lord never again to let them fall into such adversity, but if they should ever sin, to correct them with moderation and not to deliver them over to blasphemous and barbarous nations. This day of the purification of the Temple FELL ON THE VERY DAY ON WHICH THE TEMPLE HAD BEEN PROFANED BY THE FOREIGNERS, the twenty-fifth of the same month, Chislev. They kept eight festal days with rejoicing, in the manner of the feast of Tabernacles, remembering how, not long before at the time of the feast of Tabernacles, they had been living in the mountains and caverns like wild beasts.

A revolt started in Modein where Mattathias killed a Jew making a profaned sacrifice and then killed the king's official who enforced such sacrifices. Mattathias fled to the hills with his sons. Seleucid troops from Jerusalem pursued the rebels and slaughtered a group of women and children on the Sabbath. His successor, Judas Maccabee, along with many pious Jews - called the “Chasidim” (pious ones) - joined the revolt. They would descend from the mountains and would strike the Syrians with swift unexpected attacks (Maccabee - “Battle hammer” . After THREE YEARS of fighting against overwhelming odds, the Maccabees regained control of the Temple.

During the time of the Maccabees, the arrogant murderous ruler Antiochus IV had defiled the Temple and set up an image of himself demanding that he be worshipped. After three years, his army was defeated and he was overthrown. The Temple was cleansed and rededicated to the worship of the God of Israel.

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

So, when did Mattathias kill a Jew who was making a profaned sacrifice? On what day was this abominable sacrifice being made? 2 Maccabees 10 tells us that it happened on the 25th day of Chislev, the first day of Hanukkah. When did they flee to the mountains? When did they kill a group of women and children on the Sabbath? During the Feast of Hanukkah. Jesus is telling us that we have to understand the history of the Jews to get what He is saying here: “Let the reader understand.” He makes very obvious reference to 2 Maccabees 10 when he says, “Flee to the mountains”, “How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!” “Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.” The book of Maccabees tells us that when the abomination took place on the 25th of Chislev, they fled into the mountains, the women and young children were killed on the Sabbath and it was during the winter. The abomination took place on the first day of Hanukkah and Jesus is telling us to understand, or to research these things so that we can understand what He is referring to. It was exactly 3 years to the day that the war lasted until they could rededicate the Temple and finally celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles in the month of Chislev. And from that time on, the Feast of Tabernacles was celebrated both in the 7th and 9th months, but the second one became known as the Festival of Lights or the Festival of Dedication. Jesus is clearly pointing us to Hanukkah as the beginning of the 3 years of horror, ruled by the Antichrist.

So, the Antichrist’s rule will end after 3 years? The Tribulation only lasts of 3 years? What about 1260 days (3 ½ years)? The days are shortened. The fourth trumpet judgment in Revelation shows us that 1/3 of the sun and 1/3 of the moon are without light. This means that the earth’s rotation will speed up and it will only take 16 hours to make a day. Nearly half of the Tribulation will be days that are shortened. What causes the earth to rotate faster? I don’t know. But I believe the Lord will make 3 years into 1260 days by causing the earth to spin faster. Immediately after He refers to this 3 year period in Matthew 24:15-21, He explains that the days will be shortened so that we can understand how 1260 days can fit into only a 3-year period.

Renee,
This is very wonderful and all very true...accurate as related to Biblical prophecy. I have only one thing to add to your wonderful assessment of this coming darkness. The "Temple" for us is not in a geographical location(as it will be for the Jews after our departure). We are to consider Christ's "Body" as the Temple (John 2:19 and 1Cor.3:16), and for us, these passages about the desolation of the Temple will have a very real and yet more "Spiritual" context that has much deeper and more personal implications than simply leaving your clothes behind and running to the hills.

The "Abomination of Desolation" spoken about in Daniel and referred to by our Lord of His own Body, alludes to a "benumbing stench" of sin within our own person(individually and collectively, within the Church) and therefore, those who are in "Judea"(those who are in PRAISE of the living God) should flee to the mountain of God.......Go to Him in WORSHIP and in PRAISE, not going back to your "old house"(modern congregations and their "traditions of men"), not return for "its" clothing(the works of the flesh)....these SPIRITUAL applications are the only way you and I can apply them to our personal and current experience. If there is going to be a rebuilt Temple in Israel and reconstituted sacrifices there, it will be for the times "renewed" for the Jews and not for the Ekklesia.

Those prophecies are for us, but, only in their more Spiritual application...don't get me wrong, they are very real, but not in the same way they will be real for the nation of Israel during the time of Jacob's trouble. In the same way that we get to experience our troubles and tribulations incrementally, we also have to have the "abominable thing" revealed within us in a very personal way...the sin nature of all mankind and its introduction even within the Church of Christ's Body.

This is very much what Jonathan Kleck's videos are all about and the revelation given to him about the serpent seed withing the very genetics of all mankind...this IS an abomination to God, but one that the "new-birth" circumvents. I am very much interested how the three days of darkness applies to our more "spiritual" application and that within these final days and hours, that we must spend fighting against our own fallen nature and seeking the grace found only in the Spirit of living Christ Jesus.
When you too, find yourself with this abomination standing where it should not be, go to HIM that can set you free...YESHUAH HA MESHIAC....leave everything else behind and go to HIM!
